Ok so here is the story, I had the car booked in today to have my coil packs replaced under the recall, They wanted the car for an hour, so I wandered around the kip that is Mullingar and got shouted at by a crazy African women who decided to start praying on her knees and shout at people as they walked past outside Cusack Park( Very random encounter) anyway got back to the car and I was told it was ready and I said thanks and drove out, Didn't check them there as I hadn't time due to them wanting the car for a whole hour to do that small job.

I got home there tonight and just had a quick look to make sure everything was OK, this is what I found

Incase you haven't realised yet they are my original ones, Faulty P/N and all, To say Im annoyed is an understatement, For such an apparent professional organisation this is unacceptable, Unless they have strip them down and rebuilt them with stronger internals that is

, If I were some person who hadn't a clue about cars I would have never had known, Im going in tomorrow when I finish work and I won't be leaving until my car is sorted.

So before I go in and make a fool of myself have I missed something? I cant understand why they didn't just change them.

Why the hell would they do that it costs them nothing, we have had a few in for check and cust has to return to get coils fitted as were not carrying every coil in stock but either way thats bad form
if you wna pm me your chassis and part no of all coils and ill double check your due coils

Had mine down in Connolly's VW Sligo yesterday for this recall. Didn't check the part numbers yet but will now!!
They took the car in for an hour even though I explained I was in a rush back to work. Total joke for a ten minute max job!!
What made it worse is some mechanic/apprentice decided to take it for a test drive/rag down the road afterwards

As far as I can rember, the recall is to check the part number on the coils and only a certian part number must be replaced. But I cant rember what that number is. Mabey leave it for a day untill I can check the correct number.

i bought a golf off them before and had the same problem with them pretending to fix the car and giving it back untoched even tho they kept the car for a whole day one time... extremley annoying!!! what was the recall on anyway?

Thanks Timmy, Yes they are apparently due, they fall into the caterogy needing to be changed according to this link here
Click type in AUM and it should bring you to the relevant section, even the bloke on the phone said I was due one. All 4 coils are 06B 905 115L, one letter away from safety

@James I would have pulled him out and bet him. Simple as.

It is a pity as I have had good dealings with them for parts, Expensive but always a good service, We have had VW's in the family for years and have bought many parts off them, especially in the past few weeks getting parts for the mother's car, that list is only half done and we will be going elsewhere for the rest of the parts.

Note to anyone who maybe travelling to mullingar tomorrow, if you see a crazy African women shouting abuse and chanting or her knees, Don't make eye contact or your screwed

Look for Dan, his is the white MK2 down the back. He's running the workshop and see how you get on, nothing else to offer I'm afraid.

@ Shaunie, I would be very surprised if a main dealer would let themselves hole open like that.

I would contact them first to confirm whether or not they are in the wrong.

@ James, as for a Mechanic/Apprentice testdriving a car after they have worked on it, well they are quite entitled to do so!

If however they did rag the shit out of your car, I sure as fuck wouldn't let them away with it!

I worked in a busy Vag dealers before and I can tell you not a lot would be done to antibody's car in ten minutes.

First someone in service will have to enter your details in the system, then make up a warranty jobcard, then the jobcards would go to the service manager, then either him or the foreman would give that job to a mechanic or an apprentice if there is any free, who now has to clock on with that card.

Now they have to get the keys from the keyboard, get a seatcover, floormat, steering wheelcover, they will then have to find the car and bring it into the workshop.
The technician, will then have to find the relevant info on the recall, maybe check for any fault codes and carry out any necessary work or fit whatever parts are needed, these parts will have to be drawn from the stores which takes more time faffing around on computers with jobcards and shite!

Maybe you should have organised a better time for the recall or taken more time off work? Honestly, should the mechanic run around the place because you're in a rush back to work, what if all the customers were in a rush back to work?

What I'm trying to say is, an hour may seem like a long time when you're in a rush and you're sitting in the waiting room bored out of your mind, but the truth is all of the things mentioned above take time!
Not trying to have a go, just trying to give you an idea of what can and does go on in a garage.

They picked the time not me, I never mentioned to them I was in a rush, I had finished an hour early for this, They are wrong as I know they are my own Coils as they all had markings on the top which I noted when I was cleaning the bay last week,

I honestly don't give a shit who needs to do what behind the scenes, I worked in a garage myself, I know the workings,

All I know is my car came back in the same condition it went in and I lost an hour of my life to wandering around a kip and being abused by a crazy African women, which is never good.

I don't think that was aimed at you Shaunie. It was half at James half at anyone reading the thread..
