pop out the little gromit on the bottom of the mirror, and stick in a small screwdriver to pop off the top cover
Image

Image

Image

pop out the glass and remove the heater wires from the rear
Image

remove the 2 screws from the bottom cover and remove it
Image

Image

remove the 3 screws that holds on the motor
Image

Image

remove the small connector at the back of the motor, bit of a bitch to get off but you get the idea
Image

Image

Image

lift up the small piece on the connector and carefully remove the 3 wires, you may need to use a very small flat head to bend down the barb on the connector.im stripping the connector because i dont want to cut the wires and is easy anyway...

Image

Image

now you have this left
Image

remove the spring and the clip holding it on,but be careful not to brake the clip.a bit of pressure with a flat head, dont worry, its not going to take the eye out of ya!
Image

Image

lift off the arm and youve got this far
Image

and this is whats removed!
Image

the arosa mirror i got,was complete with back plate,it just the same as this, just a different clip and spring holding on the arm,all you need from the arosa is the arm,top cover and bottom cover,(which doesnt have to be taken off) and remove the manual adjustment mechanism, youll not be needing that anymore(well not if youre putting them back onto a car with manual adjustment)

now! remove the small cover from the bottom of the back plate(the bit youve left on the door)
Image

Image

and pull out the loom(its the reason behind removing the connector)the loom wont pull out past the spring and clip.
Image

stick on youre stubby arm, spring and clip(use the spring and clip from the bora/golf)
Image

place a deep socket on top and give it a belt of frank!a medium sized hammer, not a 15 pound slege!

Image

Image

stick back in the loom and replace the small cover
Image

Image

next thing to do is put back on the small white plastic connector, when you remove the 3 wires, the barbs will have been flattened, just lift the barb up a small bit so it will click into the connector
Image

Image

connect up the connector to the motor and use the 3 long screws from the bora/golf mirror and attach it to the arosa mirror arm.
Image

Image

stick on the mirror now and heated mirror wires, and the back cover and jobs done.......mind you, make sure you have the right color covers though,if not it might clash a bit
Image

before
Image

after
Image

same for the other side......
Image

Image

Image

job done, now you have 2 stubby heated and electriclly adjusted mirrors!

all painted
Image

just a note...these were manual adjusted arosa/lupo mirrors.if youre cars has electric mirrors, the motors will just all screw up to the arosa/lupo arms.

I put some stubby miroors on my golf a while back but they only had unheated mirrors, so went and got heated mirrors lately.

Anyway here are the part numbers for blue tinted heated mirrors to fit the stubby mirrors incase they are of use to somebody:

1J1 857 522E Drivers side.
1J2 857 521B Passenger side.
