Forum,

I did a search but cant find the info im looking for . I have a 2001 gti and it has the "turn dial" air con. Is it possible to retrofit the climate control module into a 2001 gti? I have found some for sale on fleabay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-PASSAT-GOLF-M...=item48427e560b

I preusme its not plug and play. I need vag com??

I wish it were as simple as just changing the panel and some vag-com. The full air con system uses different rads, has a heat exchanger and plumbing and there are several zone sensors etc etc. It would literally need a full donor car for parts and it'd be stripped back to the shell and loom to do it correctly, and even then the chance of it working is slim. I've looked into it, and I've done most damn everything with my mk4 and I'll not bother with it!

you dont have to change the whole loom to fit climate control to a car that already has air con, you will need to change the heater box because the flaps are motorised, i have a full conversion kit here from a climate control equipped car i broke, there is a guide on ukmk4s showing how to do it, give me a call on 087 6460601 if you want the parts

That's true for a car fitted already with a/c but in terms of my scenario the car -despite being a GTi didn't even have a/c fitted

in that situation it's easier to get loom compatible with the engine be it AUM in my case or whatever code your car runs with. Actually getting a loom isn't expensive (usually ÂŁ50 when you remove it yourself) for the cost of the loom. The expense arises from travelling across the sea to the uk via car then spending approx 5 hrs pulling a car apart in a breakers yard and withdrawing the loom without destroying anything in the process. And of course there is the the travelling on top of it all. Still it's all fun as its the only way to really begin to understand the cardiovascular system so to speak of a car. The most time consuming part is the refitment. Always takes longer as you tend to want a perfect finish.
