is the light staying on all time or does it go out for a while after bonnet opened and closed the dash takes the bonnet open signal as oil level being checked so even if you dont top up oil it resets light and can take approx 20 to 30 mile to come back on (if that makes sense),i had a similar complaint with a A6 2.0tdi and found a Tpi(tech product info) from audi cant rember exactly think a software update for dash and believe it or not some had too short a dip stick fitted as part of update certain part no's of dip sticks were to be replaced
ill try find exact info and fault code tomorrow

is that not for the oil interval/change warning?

the bonnet switch is that tied in with the oil level light/sensor? these are the fault codes it showed.

Definitely oil level. I have seen it with a B5 Passat and a Mk4 Golf. Not sure if it is applicable to the B6 A4 but no harm in checking anyway. Have also seen bad connections on the clock plug causing similar problems

Timmy's info sounds more like the right track in this case though.

i checked tpi's today and there is 2 that could apply to you mates car the only thing is none refer to any fault stored but no harm to check
1st one Tpi no:2014747/1 is to do with software update to engine ecu and incorrect dipstick i had it wrong its actually too long a dipstick fitted dipstick should be part number 03G115611AE if not its to be replaced,
the other Tpi no:2012674/8 is to do with software version of dash but in certain chassis range dash cannot be updated so has to be replaced
if chassis number is entered by audi dealer in 'elso pro' in tpi's it should show up if ethier applies if you know dealer and they ok to deal with give them the tpi numbers and they can check,or if you want to pm me chassis no ill check for you
