I would say that is highly unlikely. Have you got any pictures of the existing shaft?

 

i mite be able to get a pic in a few hours.see it was built from a 1300cc shell to a rallycross car so i dont know wheather there the write shafts used or not d,ya get me?

edit is there even a difference with mk2 shafts and mk1s?

 

Well the inner cv joint fits onto the shaft splines and is held in place with a circlip so there is no way it can really move like you are describing. It is normal for the shaft to protrude a small amount past the inner cv.

Mk1 and Mk2 shafts are different alright and not interchangeable at all as far as I know.

 

oh ok its not the cv joint i think is moving its grand and is held by its circlip. But the end of the shaft has definatley come into contact with the output of the gearbox because you can see the marks on the output and the shaft,the end of the shaft has actually worn in so bad the cv wont slide off and the tip of the shaft is visibly bigger. Sorry if im not making any sense il try get a pic in a little while.

 

Sounds like the shaft is too long alright,is the CV joint compressed fully back in past the end of the shaft?

 

i never actualy noticed if the cv was compressed back.But i think i have another shaft and a new cv to put in and il see how she gos.
