Thought I would have a look at the vage.ie forums. They were suspended a week or so ago, but today when I went onto vage.ie and clicked on the forums link, it took me to here. It begs the question - what was all the pay for the forum all about? Seems to me they were wrong in the end?

Anyway good to see we can all be one now!

How would somebody link it to this site?
Dead easy ,owner of vage.ie domain name goes into there
domain control panel and opens forward your domain, and point it to another site
or they can open advanced DNS settings and change the ip Destination .

Thanks for the technical explanation Eddie. I think it went something like the ex vage.ie webmaster pointed cars.vage.ie/invision to www.vagdrivers.net instead of www.vage.ie in a moment of absent mindedness

The suspended link looked bad for the club/site.

Anyway fixed now. Worms back in can. Roll on VAGE show next Sunday.

Fixed now. Must have been a server configuration error................

So while we are on the topic any news on the new VAGE forums and site Danny?

no news yet but hoping to get something done when the show is out of the way.
maybe there wont be a forum next time round but we will try and spruce up the site side of things.

its a disgrace the way the forums went because of a decision based on ignorance
Image

Now thats an understatement Ronan

Now the poor lads that paid their membership for the use of the forum have been shafted.

I'm just glad I did'nt renew mine

As you said already Ronan, its a disgrace.

The VAGE forums were effectively dead the day the club decided to restrict them to club members only, this was predicted by a lot of people when the decision was announced. A decision that was made by certain people who thought they were acting in the best interest of the club but were ignorant of the value of the forums to the club.

When they got hacked a while back taking them offline was really only a formality as nobody was using them anyway. At least kvw and thos had the foresight and acted quickly enough to start this site to fill the void left by the VAGE forums, as a free resource for VAG enthusiasts all over the country, regardless of club affilitations.

Yeah three cheers for the lads and for asking me to help out over here.

Now lets not slate the VAGE club. The concept of a club was a good one for all the VAG heads in this country. The way its gone is online communities, organising meets through the net etc.

I'd like to see the VAGE club continue for the foreseeable future though.

its funny cos i know lots of the boys who were involved in setting up the club.
i know some individuals will com on here saying how evil we people are, but face it the meet thing is great but when i am sitting at my desk bored out of my skull it is a lot easier to talk to like minded individuals than to look busy.

If the powers that be wanted to remove us from contributing to the club so be it, but it will in the long term reduce the members in the club and also appeal of the club. i dont live in cork so it is a limited use to me but web based is much better as its non region specific.

you can have people meet up and post pics but its not limited to where your from, look at vw vortex for that, people form everywhere post up there and its a US based site.

This forum is becoming what the vage one could have become, a place where people can spout crap about vag stuff all day long, it suits me 100 times better than a club which has become narrow minded!

Who is involved in vage that seems to hate the web?

lads this is old news, dont really want to go through it all again on this site, the decision was made ,the forum was restricted,a new forum was set up by people who had an interest in an online commuinity(which i use myself nearly every other day)can it not just be left at that once and for all.what would be nice is for people who seem to be still deeply upset at the loss of the vage forums and constantly bring it up for whatever reason come over at the next show/meet and get it off there chests once and for all and close the subject .what happens to the vage club in the next few months we will see, be it good or bad at least there is a club and it could exist alongside a online community if certain people on here would let the matter rest.,see ye all hopefully at the show on sunday .

Danny, you make it sound so simple

, "the decision was made, the forum was restricted"

Will you ever admit your decision was the wrong one?

I think only then you can put closure on the VAGE fiasco.

What are the plans for the vage club?

I think Danny you make a very good point there, it seems to be brought up at every oppertunity this thing about the VAGE fiasco as its called and people should get it off their chest once and for all and have the balls to go and say it at the meeting next sunday, no matter what side of the fence they are on as they say, just get it out in the open, cos at the end of the day we are all in it for the love of VW/Audi cars.
I used the VAGE forums and now this 1, i paid money to join VAGE but i have no gripe about it !
Just get over it and grow up!!
Oh and by the way i do use forums a lot,in the league of ireland soccer scene where i have seen people getting attacked , bottled and anything else thrown at them , but a lot of this that i see here is just keyboard warriors leaving off some steam and in my opinion childishness, if u do have something to say like what danny has said just then go see him and let bygones be bygones!!!

To be honest, while I was a bit pissed off at the decision at the time and still believe it was most definitely the wrong one I agree with Danny on this. Let it go at this stage. Its been done to death. If you are a paid up member of VAGE and you are pissed off that the forum that you paid to use is now gone, this is not the medium to air your grievances. Speak to the lads on sunday or send them a mail.

Its brought up every opportunity as there was never any closure brought to it, with regard to the people who made the fatal decision to restrict our forum to us without getting a proper feel for the situation.

Everybody was telling the few people that mad the inept decision it was going to mark the end of the VAGE forum.

The decision makers should just swallow their pride and admit they were wrong on making the decision to restrict our forum to us, sure as you say yourself Quattro get it out in the open, have the balls to admit they were wrong for the love of the VAG brand

what do you want Dave, somebody to come on here and say a mistake was made,no mistake was made if you allow for the fact it was a public vote made by those who turned up at the agm,it has proved to be (in my opinion only) damaging to the club certainly at the moment but if people might let us get on with trying to have a club we might have a chance.i think dave i've met or a least walked past you a few times at various meets ,you have always said hello but never stopped to have a chat about the whole thing you seem to care so much about but your always one of the first to post here about it.

membership will be taken on sunday trev and if there is enough interest in the club we will carry on.

I sincerely hope there is, it would be a shame to let the club die. Afterall, forum aside it has done nothing but good for the vw scene in Ireland. I'm all for letting this subject rest!! In my opinion, nothing more needs to be said.
