Like over the years ive had 5 cars in 4 years and have done up every one of them!

On 3 of them i would have spent over €2,000 some amount of money when ya look back?

And im onto my 5th, wonder how much il spend this time?!

Am i abit mad or does everyone do this?

I never drank smoked or touched drugs in my life! I want to spend money on my car my parents are grand about it! I can buy what I like! Herself doesn't get it but I just say wen you stop shopping I'll stop buying bits for cars!!!

I've spent about 20k on my mk2 since i bought it.

Modifying/restoring cars is a single/settled mans game.

If you have a young family you may sell up eveything.

All I usually get is: What was wrong with the yokes that were on it in the first place!!.

As the lads said they know i could be spending it on worse so they dont mind.

Yes and No. Strangely enough my Dad Likes what I do. He reckons it's not fast enough tho

Mother Brother and sister all take the piss for keeping it so clean. That was until the sister bought a 94 cooper s and I detailed it for her.

Girlfriend used to take the piss til i polished her car and showed her how to wash it properly and now she washes it more than i do mine. Mods wise though she thinks I'm mad to spend money on my car. Same as TJ though I've compared it to her shopping.

I try to keep it to myself haha. The less they no the better,

I reckon I've spent about 6-7k now on the car. If she found out well lets just say it wouldnt be pretty....

For the most part though she's pretty cool about it. Like if I say I wanna upgrade something she doesn't mind as long as I'm not leaving myself stuck for the month and have to sponge off her.

They think Im mad but they dont mind, as others have said my reason is I barely drink and dont smoke, I live a home being a young lad so why not spend it on my car, at the end of the day its the only thing I own thats worth something, Ive friends that will spend hundreds in the pub every weekend and when I say Ive bought this and it was X amount there like ' Why the fcuk would you spend that on a car'so I just say why would I spend it on getting a hang over,at least Ive something to show for it.

Think about it.... you could nearly spend €1k on rims and tyres alone! IMO tid be worse smoking, getting wasted etc,. and what would ya have to show for it?
Family & friends say,"look and the amount of money you've thrown into that yoke, and ya still have to feed it with petrol/diesel!" Where as they still need a car to go to the shop and get **** for nearly a tenner a pop!

i could have bought a decent car for what iv spent on one set of rims and tyres, i could have bought a savage car for what iv spent on paint

what have i got now, a car worth max 3k thats only half done, another 8k might see it somewhat finished - do i sound defeated yep and contemplating taking a year out from it all at least

my family think im crazy and my friends dont know the half of it, all they know is that they dont see me near as much as they used to as im always saving for something new and cant afford to go out

i dont smoke and dont drink now near as much as i used to so yea i could be spending it on alot worse but looking back i have regrets on decisions made regarding it, but yet its all priceless with the friendships made here and abroad that i would have only met through cars

I spent a crazy amount on my E36 that I never got a sniff of getting back. I dont regret it but I wont be shelling out cash on mods like that for a long time. Having kids means funds are being funneled elsewhere for the time being. Maybe in 5-10 years Ill buy a house with a garage and build the Mk1/2/Caddy/Corrado of my dreams. Similar to what Neilo is doing. Unfortunately with kids and a semi d, there is no point kidding myself for now lol

I wish my car only stood me 2k in mods, and it's still a shit heap. I worked it out the other day and my winter plans will set me back about 7k, and thats if everything goes to plan.

My friends think it's ridiculous, they know I don't care what they think though, so they generally don't say anything, unless there's a few beers on board. Then all sorts of spiel comes out
Image

The thing is though, my friends still have as little of a disposable income as I do, yet they don't have anything to show for where their money goes. I can't figure out where they spend their money at all.

It's my "thing" and you have to have a few outlets in life so never an issue but we have an understanding
Image
no one asks and I don't volunteer what I've spent

As someone said you could spend it on a lot worse which would impact your family and kids. Family will always come first and they know that at the end of the day.

my mother just can understand the whole thing-
if they knew the price of some stuff they'd die! but they dont so fuck em!
they'd rather see me save it or something more sensible.
i would hate to think what i've spent on mods and cars over the years-

that porsche had a few quid thrown at it in the past 12 months.
i'm in the process of fitting an audio system to the wagon and thats hitting the scales at 8k all in!

my most guiltiest spend was the 20 x 8.5" and 20 x 10" trafficstar stm rims on the m3 wrapped
in pirelli p-zeros. them were the celtic tiger days when money was freely available from banks!

them were the days!
