Engine management light means a fault has been logged. Best to get it scanned and see what the fault code is and take it from there.

sounds like it could be a temp sensor.....but get it scanned and as Geo say go from there....

Edit could also be a MAF

It was Revo'd Joe.

I scanned the car and it showed up a MAF and an EGR fault.

The car had a panel filter in it which he had removed. I told him to clean the MAF with contact cleaner and see if the codes came back.

He got the EGR replaced last week but now the car is way down on power, he had another thread up about it yesterday.

mmmm , did you check boost request vs actual in block 11? vnt on the turbo could be stuck closed causing no boost , this would cause the black smoke as the engine management system is waiting for air mass

stick an airmass into it anyway , should be a service item

 

When I drove it it was boosting ok once you got it going. It was a bit sluggish when pulling away from a standstill, which could have been either EGR or MAF I thought. That's why I said to clean the MAF and drive away and see what codes came back.
