A week or so ago, i got into the car to come home from the shops and it wouldn't start.

Sounded like it wasn't getting fuel, so took off the top fuel line and sure enough, there was nothing. I assumed it was the fuel pump.

My brother came over with the tow rope and the old mans car so i didn't have to leave it outside the shops... after a pull the car started and drove home (15mins).

The next day, it started fine but it was only to move it out of the driveway, and put it back in. The following day, it didn't start again.

Still thinking it was the fuel pump, i plugged in VAGCOM just to see if anything was throwing up an error. VAGCOM said there was no signal, yet the green light on the lead was lit. I tried the laptop in another car - so that was working. I went to the fuses beside the steering column - all OK.

BUT... the three fuses (30a) on top of the battery had MELTED. The fuse-holder had bubbled and most of it melted. Fuses, obviously, blown. I got a 30A fuse and made sure it had contact.. VAGCOM then connected to the car - and no errors. But it still wouldn't start...

I got a new fuse-block today and put it on, but still nothing. There is definitely fuel getting to the engine, and it is definietly getting a spark.

Any ideas??

The battery is fine. The pics in the vwvortex post are near enough a carbon copy of the distribution box on Andrews car. When the shinged box was present vcds would not connect to the car and there was no fuel being pumped. When we made a connection with the old box we could connect with vcds and fuel began to pump. We have since changed the distribution box for a good part but this has not helped the issue i.e the car still wont start.

There is fuel and there is a spark. Im thinking a crank or cam sensor or immobiliser ??

If it was crank sensor then you wouldn't be getting fuel and you would have an error code.

Cam sensor should also throw an error code.

Is the immobiliser light flashing when you are trying to start the car? The immobiliser could have lost its settings due to the power interrupt caused by the fuses blowing.

Try this out anyway since you have VAG-com, go into immobilizer (25), select (10) adaptions, then type in 00 to reset factory settings. Turn ignition off for about 3 seconds, turn ignition back on immobilizer light should go out.

Let us know how you get on.

The immobiliser light is not flashing when the car is being started. When the ignition light are on the immobiliser light goes out as normal.

I'll do the reset on it this evening and see if that sorts it.

VAGCOM wouldn't communicate with the car at all last night. Goes from bad to worse.

It was late when i got home, but it just didn't communicate at all. The light on the VAGCOM cable turned green when plugged in.
