I don't know lads, it's an awful stupid way the SC came out alright, but I can't see why that lad couldn't have pulled up without hitting him tho - he didn't even lock up on the breaks, but the lad behind him managed to stop ok after the impact & he didn't hit either of them... NUMPTIES the LOT of them tho, sure did ye see the damage after only one feckin' lap?! They shouldn't be aloud drive nice cars like them, ridciulous stuff

force majeur - racing incident

the organisers are probably as guilty as anyone if the drivers weren't aware of the sc coming out, or could be the marshall at the end of the pit area for letting the sc out, who knows.

QUOTE (Alan B. @ May 19 2009, 10:20 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>combination of the pit exit too close to the turn, safety car pulling out too slow,
track being narrow and the driver trying to beat the safety car to gain a lap on the rest?
Safety car should also have kept to his right until he knew the way was clear instead of pulling straight into the line of oncoming cars.

not sure who caused it but,

was I the only one who thought the way the door of the safety car flew open would be dangerous if you were in a normal accident? Its not something that should happen?

Jesus! The SC pulled out far too far on exiting, really should have stayed to his right more on exit. Alot of wrecked cars very early on in the race too

I think that SC was a basic road car with lights and stickers, I can see them justifying the cost of purpose built SC cars

. What ever about in F1 with there BIG budgets

I dont really mean as a pace car but as a normal road car... if some eejit wasn't wearing a seat belt they could be out the fecking door quick enough!

Hey Brian, My post above probably came out slightly wrong, I was agreeing with ya in relation to TGI's post

QUOTE (bgh @ May 21 2009, 09:29 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>its since emerged that the SC went out without being told to, and that the BMW did slow down to the pit wall flags
At the time I figured there was some confusion, look at the marshall at the pitlane exit. He seems to be signalling not to go, then to go. BUT the race car driver definitely stated he seen a SC board on the straight so he & every other car should have slowed.

QUOTE (Exodus @ May 23 2009, 06:51 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Would there not be a log in the bmw , recording braking and accelrating paterns? Then they could see whether he accelerated when seeing the SC flag or braked! Or is that WRC they do it in?

Safety car blamed for Pau crash
Eurosport - Tue, 19 May 10:51:00 2009

Stewards have blamed the driver of the safety car for the crash with Franz Engstler's BMW during the second race at the World Touring Car Championship meeting in Pau.

Race reports
After an investigation it was found that although the safety car procedure for alerting marshals had been set in motion, the driver had not been given the green light to exit the pit-lane.

Nevertheless he pulled out, steering into the middle of the track instead of using the acceleration lane.

The data logged by the ECU of Engstler's BMW showed that he actually slowed down and braked as he saw the yellow flags and SC boards on the main straight.

However, the German driver - who was leading the race from the eventual winner Alain Menu - could not avoid the crash when he came out of turn one and found the safety car cutting across.

Stewards have forwarded their report to the FFSA (French sporting authority), recommending they take appropriate sanctions against Philippe Cholet and Jean-Pierre Colas who were in charge of the safety car.
