Written Off Car On The Road?

Back in 2007 I crashed my 98' Corolla and the car was wriitten off by Hibernian. The damage wasnt big but according to them "the value of repair would exceed the value of the car". They offered good money for it so I agreed. The deal was that they offered me X euro and the cheque was issued for X-500E. I was also given a phone number to a guy who would pay me the balance of 500E and take the car off me.
Since the car was in one piece, with 1 week-old Michelin tyres (and generally in great nick, with less than 50k miles on it!)I decided to sell it as a write off (for parts, scrap etc). It was gone within a day (for more than 500 euro haha). I have changed the owner details on the logbook and post it to Shannon. The buyer knew the car was written off as i advertised it that way.
1 hour ago I saw the car on the street in the city! WTF???
Shoud I notify the Gardai? Or Hibernian?
How come is it still on the road?

Thanks.
Was thinking the same for a moment but I was under the impression that once written off, the car should not be on the road regardless of the damage occured in the past..

all it takes is for it to be nct'd or an engineers report and even a car declared as destroyed could be back on the road.
it happened one of the lads i know.
he bough a crashed car to repair and put a new engine in,m in the meantime the previous owner sent the book off as it having been crushed as an end of life car,
but obviously it wasnt as he had the car and was in the process of fixing it.

it took a bit of ball ache for him to get down to exactly what he had to do but basically, he needed to pass an nct or engineers report and the book would be re issued.

well of course im not sure, but is worth thinking about, it goes on the whole time, people buy the plates and number off a scrapped motor (or indeed buy the whole motor) and put them on a stolen car with no id. or ive seen it done in one case on uk reg car that the person didnt want to pay vrt on, he could do it as the car wasnt declared wrote off by insurance

my previous car was wrote off and is back up for sale on donedeal at the moment. the insurance company told me it wasnt worth fixing but the guy who collected it to me it would be back on the road in weeks!

i dont know how bad a car has to be damaged for it to be not let back on the road. i think in some cases its ok to fix a car that has been damaged as long as its inspected and certified road legal and of course stated to the potential buyer.
