Would You Choose A Realistic 'normal' Car Over A Fancy 'super' Car

As title really, stumbled upon quite a narrow minded quote in a thread earlier this week whereas some mentioned that we'd all choose a fancy car over say a mk2 20vt in this instance.
I find this actually offensive to the people who are really into their retro cars myself included.

So question is would you?

I for one wouldn't, if i got offered a lambo for free or an E30 M3 evo sport i'd take the BM everytime.
You can't beat that retro feel and an age when things were just that bit more basic/raw/etc

It's a hard call...would really depend on the cars in question but as a general answer I have a real soft spot for the old retro look and would take a sleeper mk2 any day...

Whatever you wanted be it 70's 80's 90's or newer car etc but just a 'normal' car. Cut off point i guess being something you could buy outright for say €20k.

Depends on the cars Paul,if running cost weren't an issue id take a Gallardo over a 20v anything anyday, but if it was the E30 built in the states recently with the V10 out of the E60 M5 then i'd take that over a gallardo for sure.

. If you couldnt sell I would definetley choose a realistic nice car

Yes, I'd take one too then sell it and buy a few different cars both new, old and ones to be built.

Seriously though, I think that a lot of people have a list of cars they grew up with (E30 M3 is def on mine) be that owned by people they knew as kids or adults or even just as kids in books or posters. Some are iconic and some are just cars that you could associate with. It is obviously then combined by the enjoyment you just get from motors either just admiring them, driving them or trying to improve them. I think you then end up with an itch, and set an objective to go out and try and get these cars over time.
It doesn't make sense but it doesn't have to.

EDIT: (just seeing Shanes post) Would I ever like to own a super car like a Ferrari etc? Yes of course I would but only if I also lived in Italy, in Maranello, have the roads, the weather and all the other trimmings.

First of all, I wouldn't say no to a free Reventon...

But, if it came to spending my own money, well a Lambo Gallardo is $230,000, that probably would end up being the same in euros here because of VRT etc?

For that money, you could have (guesstimates)
25k to fully build a Mk1
25k to fully build a Mk2
15k for a tidy original Rallye
20k for a tidy E30 M3
40k to fully build a Mk1 Escort

and thats only just over half the price of the lambo spent...

I know what I'd be spending my money on.

Edit, I'd probably spend the rest on a 964, a few tractor restore projects and a big fuck-off garage

R36'd MK1 please, followed by a Hyabusa powered MK1, That Viper powered VW bus, that thing would be ' interesting' to say the least down a back road. I have never really bothered with ferrari's, Porsche, Lambo's etc, there just too 'perfect' if that makes sense, too refined, Id have a noble, TVR or even a radical before any of them.

Off topic but am i alone in having zero interest in owning a modern ferrari? i might get slated but give me a modern lambo anyday.if i won the lotto in the morning my first port of call would be a 911 hands down.

Well I obviously wouldn't spend my own money on a Gallardo I'd spend it on about 100 other cars and a turbo for the 520 but if I was given the choice between a gallardo/r8/911 and an e30 m3/mk2 20vt etc. I would have to take the supercar, no question. Not even cause it would be worth more it would just be way nicer.

I think even if I won the lotto, I'd have no real interest in buying a ferrari/lambo etc,
I'd have something like a new RS6 and then loads of older cars (from the 80's and 90's) in a huge heated garage,
First thing I'd do would be go visit the lad I sold my e30 M3 I had a few years back, offer him whatever it took and get it back, miss that car every sunny day!
Then I've a list of about 20/25 cars that I have previously or will own some day!
I'd probably buy back the red volvo 850R I owned aswell
Come on numbers......

25k to fully build a low Mk1
25k to fully build an even lower Mk2
15k for a tidy original but even lower than the MK2 Rallye
20k for a tidy but literally on the ground E30 M3
40k to fully build a Mk1 so low it's in Australia Escort

Fixed that for ya Walter

I agree a car that really does tick all boxes, only the new Rs6 avant surpases it as an RS car i want more, obviously i wouldnt turn down any RS but those 2 are top of the pile.

I'd go with the a legendary sleeper, a insanely fast mk1 (R36/G60T) with lots of safety stuff built in and most importantly well built over 99% of the super/hyper cars!
The exception being a r8 v10! Nothing not even a v10'd mk1 could make me fore go on the actual r8

V8 mk1

Back on topic, I'd have very much a soft spot for the older cars.
To put it into context, Id much rather go for a 190E evo sport Vs a modern AMG of similar value or I'd go for a 3 door RS500 every time over a new focus RS.

Old skool FTW
