I'm in north Dublin, not far from the airport and in a fairly well populated area and its a fuckin joke when it comes to broadband. Eircom just keep saying they cannot provide it on over our line but the neighbour has it so I dont see the problem.

Eircome are the biggest shower of wankers to get any information or any level of customer service from so for that reason alone I would advise people just not to deal with them.

I'm with Eircom and for the first 2 months i didn't have the filter on all the phones in the house, just the one that my Dsl was connected to which meant it only worked when the downstairs phone was not in use!

Gave out stink to Eircom and they put me through to tech support which asked me did i read the installation manual?
Turned out hat i made a cock up, i should have put the filters on al connections as stated in the instructions! and they waved the first 2 months as a sign of good will!

I don't work for Eircom!

Actually, i do't work!

Amocom

the map says it covers Carrigaline.

Home User - 512kbps upload and download speed. €149 to install and €60. not cheap but a very reliable service.

They don't provide a wireless router inside the house as far as i know, but if you want on they're cheapish and i can get them at cost or there abouts.

I could'nt agree with you more, you get to talk to unhelpful gobshites after being left on hold for 20minutes, they make my blood boil.

Mark, My folks live down the road and got eircom broadband a few years back, is that a farce or what.

Eircom depend on the exchanges, and whether or not the exchange can handle broadband etc. You'll find that you might work off one exchange, and ur neighbour works off another. Someone try and find the logic there...........

Then u might be the last on the line and the furthest from the exchange, u'll basically be getting dialup speeds for broadband prices.

The company i work for just got permission for another 20 odd masts and we should have nationwide coverage by the end of the year......

Depends on how much you want to use it...
For general brwsing in the home 512kb down 128k up is fine. (Most offer 1mb now)
If your trying to run a business form home i would say at least 1 mb down and 128k or 256k up. Most mid level offerings are now 2mb down which can be nice and quick

Then again it all depends on the contention ratio i.e. how many people you could be sharing the line with..the lower the better !
I have Eircom Home Starter on a 48:1 contention and it's fine. But then again I'm in Portarlington where there has been a very low uptake on it ! reckon I have i to myself most of the time !

would agree with the above. unless your downloading huge files or playing games online alot theres no need for a big expensive package. i have a 2mb package at home from BT (€40 per month inc line rental) and it's rocket quick. we have a 1mb connection at work and never find it slow unless someone is downloading a big file and i can't browse Vagdrivers.net...

I was looking at digiweb @€29.99 a month with €29.95 installation, BT @€30 a month with €40 installation or Imagine @€29.99 a month with €44.99 installation.

All the above are 2Mbps, Eircom is €39.99 a month with €29.99 installation its also 2Mbps.

I have an eircom dial up flat rate at the moment 150hours bi-monthly for €60, and its feckin slow

firstly, forget eircom. shower of wan*ers. i deal with them regularly for our own customers and their customer service is every bit as bad as the lads said above. you'll be on hold forever for the technical support.

don't know much about digiweb, but i hear they're ok to deal with. never heard anyone talking about imagine.

i reckon the €20 per month from BT would do you (1mb) if it's only home use, surfing and emails. our first broadband connection at work was 512K. we had 15 users on it, a web server and the companies email server and it was more than enough. but then seeing as your already paying €30 per month, it might be worth your while if you think you'd use the 2mb connection.

if you do go for eircom or bt and choose the cheapest package, when eircom upgrade the lines and double the speed, you'll be doubled too with no extra charge. I started with a 1mb connection at home and it was upgraded recently to 2mb and it made feck all difference as i don't use/need the extra speed.

@cian Amocom do a starter package 512 up and 256 down for €35 per month so thats an option, nice one.

Just found another wireless option, huge coverage for carrigaline area.

Nova Networks

Home Express 1m Down, 1m Up, 16GB Download Allowance, Contention ratio of 20:1, €139 Inst and €39 euro/ month. Sounds good

What about activating the phoneline in the house?? looks like broadband and line rental would come in around €30 with BT. Assuming my phoneline is capable of broadband that might be a better option.
I'll stay away from Eircom from what ive read here and try BT.

Right... I have now activated my phoneline with eircom which was free.

Line rental with them is around €25. If I want a 1Mb down and 128kb up service with them it will cost me another €30 on top of the line rental. Total around €55/month....... Same service with BT is €35/month including line rental and a better service with 2mb down and 256k up is €40/month.

Once my Line is sorted im going to switch to BT and that will be that.

Thanks for all the advice
