As above.....who is your GTi insured with? What are your stats and what is your quote?

I'm 27, male, living in South Dublin, full licence for 4 years, 1 years no claims in my own name and 3 years no claims as a named driver.
Just rang my current insurer as my policy is almost up. I was quote €1350 Fully Comp. or €1270 TPFT on a mkv GTi. Was hoping it would be the good side of a grand! But I will ring around over the next few days.

EDIT: Thought you'd 4 years NCB in your name.
I'm 27, have Full NCD with Hibernian and paying €640 with 2 points on an Octavia VRS TDI.

Insurance companies run a mile when they hear GTI and the few that are interested pick a number

Stupid that the mark 5 gti is much more than the mark4 . I mean the mark 5 is safer all around, Better traction control, better handling, stronger chasis 5 star ncap etc etc. and on the road its not that much quicker than the 1.8t

Did the research a few months ago when I chaged from TDI to GTI golf and my insurance with Eagle Star went from €640 to €970.

I have a full licence, no points, full 5 years NCB and am 29. I got Insured with Aviva for €740 and that includes full no-claims protection, not just step-back.

I thought the big jump in price was because the value I put on it went from 11K to 17K but the explanation from Eagle Star was because the car is much more likely to be stolen and the value placed by the customer actually doesnt impact insurance cost at all.

123.ie actually gave me a similar price to Aviva but I went with the brand I was more familar with....

What happens when you introduce a change of engine?
If I wanted a quote on my mk2 gti 8v with the 20vt in it....will they even humour me?
I heard before that when you put in a different engine that they'll quote you for the donor car

EDIT - We should start a club discount!!

Seems most quotes on here are a bit higher than I expected. I knew the insurance companies wouldn't like to hear GTi but bear in mind, i'm insured on a Integra Type R at the moment so they hate that even more!
Will do so more ringing around for quotes next week and see what I can come up with

QUOTE (mark_eire @ Oct 6 2010, 06:20 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>I'm 30, just sold my Gti a few month's ago, full NCB, 4 points. I was paying €600 on the Gti with zurich,
Now I have a mk4 gti, paying €500 for that, my wife is the main insurer on the '07 Octavia vRS and she's paying only €340 fully comp with me named on it!! Mad!

Who is the wife insured with Mark?
My wife has the same car and we're paying 480 full protected and that was with ringing a good few spots.

I'm €628 for the Cupra R. 30, 7 years NCB.

Both of us are with Travellers through the Crotty group (Getcover)
