well lads im new here and so far i love the site.
picked up a white golf project last weekend and the plans are to tidy it up and get driving it.
might do a respray at some stage down the road but for the mean time im on a budget so it will be second hand parts
and do most of the work myself.
this is her when i got home.

other things i had done over the last few weeks was swap the big exhaust for a more standard one
got a small gti badge and fitted the audi sport seats in the front.
the rear bench is also fitted but the backs are loose and still need fixing. just the seatbelts holding them up.
car needs a good wash and seats need a good shampoo.

feels like iv had this car for ever but have put no miles up on it.
so the project starts again. i never said it would be a fast one, lol.
i was driving a mk4 gti for a few months and then thought why not stick
the engine in the mk2.
so pulled the engine out of the mk2 last week and im just prepping the bay.

weather was great this morning so got some spray painting done.
to be honest i just used thinned down white machinery paint.
looks way way better then i thought it would.
as i said before its no show car just a good tidy up is all i want to do.
either way its only under the bonnet.

spent the day on the wire wheel and cleaned the subframes.
later on shot some paint at them, again just black machinery paint.
no moneys for powder coating

hope its good stuff. needs no primer and has rust inhibitor in it.
il flip them in the morning and do the backs.

always look great when there wet

so after some tea and cake, then a beer or 2

i went back at it and thought i should try get it ready so i could pull the engine in the morning but made good progress so kept at it and got it out just as is got dark

then came the hardest bit of the day that i never thought about, getting the engine and crane up the the 4" step into my garden so i could push it into the garage. so on my own and after a lot of huffing puffing ans swearing its in.

done a bit with the car after work. not much but this is how i fitted my mc to brake servo.

i wanted to use the mk2 reservoir so i can use the cap so the electric connectors will not need modifying.
you will notice the focus master cylinder has a lug of metal between the 2 rubbers seals.

i put the mc in the vice cut it off and gave it a file

you can then install the rubber seals from the mk2 reservoir and the reservoir itself, one problem solved.
finished article

next problem is the focus mc wont sit flush with the servo

as i said before there is 2 ways to solve this. 1. make up a spacer to pack the difference or 2. inside the servo there is a removable pin on the end of the rod. remove is and file down the difference.
the pin is 15mm long

i need it to be shorter by 3-4mm so i stuck it in a drill and filed it down

this is it compared to a second one i had

and all back together flush, just need a bit of paint on the servo now and i think were good to go.
