What is the best shop / outlet in New York or New Jersey to buy a Omega or Tag?
I mate is going over next month and was asking if I knew where the best places where for him to pick up a good deal.
I was going to get him to get me a VCDS over there but I checked the US price and its the same as I can get
it from the UK, so wont bother.

Anyway where to shop for watches in NY?

What are you thinking of buying? Been looking at prices myself and from what I've seen watches are more expensive in the USA than home.
I got a good deal when I bought in Newcastle.

Hi Neilo

It's not for myself, I wish it was.my friend has mentioned an Omega sea master /speed master or a tag carrera he looked online and prefers to buy in a shop he said he would save €500 - €800 compared to Irish prices.

What did you buy in Newcastle yourself?

I see, I bought an Omega seamaster automatic. Have an awful horn for an Omega planet ocean. Carrera is a nice watch, as is the monaco.
The original heuer watches are more sought after than tag heuer, might be an option to buy a mint s/h heuer.

I have a soft spot for a omega seafarer auto myself. Lovely watch wouldn't buy the quartz version myself, it looses too much in value.
Wonder what he'll end up buying....
I told him to let me know while he's there how much he can get one for. You never know I could take the plunge if the price is right :)

I bought a second tag for 200quid, genuine certified by jeweler and valued at 14-1500 quid, bought of a friend who bought a newer model and practilaly gave it to me at that money.. I'd be careful if buying online or abroad (even in shops) as there's some very good copies out there..

Most people I know into watches bought/buy in duty free or Dubai.. If buying abroad wear it through customs and post paperwork and box home or you'll be paying taxes..

Another option is pawn shop auctions..

As for omega, I think the vintage ones are classier than new ones, plus buy right and it'll go up in value..

I bought my Tag Monaco in a shop in New York called Denatale
They are based right across the road from Century 21 in Manhattan (close to the Freedom Tower)

It cost me half the price of what it is over here. HALF!!! I basically knew that I was getting it so before leaving for NY I rang all the registered Tag Dealers to see which one would do the best deal. Turned out to be Denatale. I ended up buying the missus' engagement ring there a year later!

They don't sell Omega but if you are thinking of a Tag then PM me and I can pass on your details to a contact I have there if you want.

Love seamaster too. Absolute timeless classic.

Check out Brietling too http://www.breitling.com/en/intro.php
Superb construction and arguably better finish than a lot of other main brands.

I think Tags have brought too many lower entry models into their product line although they still produce some very tasty watches.

Tag do have outlet stores across US so you may bag a bargain or two.

Bretling are a class watch but very expensive. I think his limit is up to €2000. If he was to find one of the watch's Id be interested in My absolute limit is €1500 MAX

They'd be there or thereabouts the rest of the brands. Might be surprised. Their finish is very nice. Lots of other nice brands out there too.

My mate is giving himself half a day shopping around Manhattan to find the best deal, for a good looking low depreciating watch. Hope he has enough time!

While not the real deal but surely mechanism is good enough to at least run? Or do they just look good?

I'd say most of us would struggle to tell difference on the good copies.

Did you buy Neil?

I was told by some of the Chinese people I worked with that it was luck of the draw getting one that would last more than a few weeks.
Some of them looked good and genuine then there were others that just looked wrong.

I didn't buy anything Mike.
