What would you do if someone drove into your car outside your house, caused a nice bit of damage and drove off without letting you know?

I have a fair idea who it was, should I pop into them and casualy ask if they saw anything happen?

Crappy pic

At least its not one of the VW's

CSI:Dundalk ..... coming soon to RTE2.
eh, if CSI comes to Dundalk, they'll be flat out with muggings, car theiving, car ringing, drug dealing, drunken brawls, barring orders, smuglying, fraud etc etc....GS and his paint damage might have to wait a while....lol

GS, go round to the little sc um bag if you know who he/she was and sort it out. Theres a handful of little p r ic ks causing havoc in the estate!!!!
if your're fairly sure who it was then tell them striaght that you have a witness, feck that and at the very least ask em if they saw anything!

regardless of the value of the car, its the principle of it
Also, check their car for any signs of it, if it did that to the Micra there's got to be some kind of mark on it.
QUOTE if your're fairly sure who it was then tell them striaght that you have a witness
imho thats not the right path to take because what if they ask you to produce the witness....
in my experience its best in these situations to act as if the offending parties will be uncoorative, get together as much info as possible about the incident, eg.youre car was parked over night there were no other cars near it, the other parties car always arrives home at xtime, the damage on my car matches the damage on youre car, i know it may be farfetched but the the paint flecks(there must be some) that you found when you inspected youre car this morning match the other parties car colour, etc.. i would go around there shouting the odds at them,

what evidence do you have that it was these people GS?? that you can tell us

i hope you sort it out without you haveing to pay any money
I agree with you benkenobi, faking a witness is not the most sensible path... maybe as last resort...

good luck anywat GSB

Hmmm, CSI Dundalk

As Dave says they may be a it too pre-occupied to look at my car

Its actually a lot worse than the picture suggests, the bulge you an see a bit above the moulding is the side impact bar, which has been twisted, the door skin has been pulled away from the frame towards the rear 1/4 and the frame pushed inwards above that, essentially it needs a new door.

Due to the lack of scrapes on the 1/4 and rest of the door it looks like a car reversed into it, say out of another driveway, just have to wait till later to have a look at said car to see.

Well that car is normally there when I am home at lunchtime, today it was not

I'll just have to wait and see later, should I tip up to the guards after work to report the damage? or just leave it?

if you can get there absolutly just incase they try and claim at a later date that is was your fault, you can say well i reported it to the guards immeadiatly that it wasnt my fault "why did you never report it" get youre side of the story down first, sure why not you have nothing to hide is was all their fault

i dont like the sound of that GS hopefully it will be there this evening

better off reporting it either way

i'd report it too. same reason as above. they have no come back if you get there first.

fingers crossed for you
Report it to the Cops...

Then go down to the person you think responsible and say that you spoke to someone who see it, if they ask you questions about who it is tell them you don't want any messing about and if they don't want to sort out the damage you'll let the cops sort it out, and leaving the scene would not go down well with the cops.
Those situations are always messy, hard to prove what happened. I'd report it all the same.
Like the lads say, I'd snoop around the suspect car to look for signs of damage and take pics if possible.

Last summer a girl (neighbour) ploughed into the side of my Mother's Golf after coming over the brow of a hill and made an ass of the side of it, blew out 2 airbags (roof, drivers seat) etc.
She admitted to being wrong at the seen and my Mother didn't report it to the cops because of being a neighbour.
The little b*tch changed her story later and cried 50/50, looks like she's going to get away with it too, narrow road and all that....

Went to the Guards and reported it, he asked if maybe a child kicked a football against it by mistake

When he saw it all he changed his mind
He thought someone probably reversed into it while turning and advised that I ask the neighbours if they saw anything, which I did but drew a blank, the car I suspected has been damaged on the rear right, but not all that much and they said they did not see or hear anything, so it looks like I will be fixing it myself

Ah well, there goes part of the Corrado re-spray budget
