hhmmmm interesting,

ill tell you why im asking, yesterday evening i had a none starting problem it was completly dead,
even the digital trip computer was off, so i (with wishfull thinking ) cleaned these two connections and left the car for about 2 or 3 hours came back and it started first time, i was thinking that they might be more to do with the ignition or starter

lol, so you just decided to clean them cos they were the first things you saw when you looked under the bonnet?

Sounds more like a bad connection to the battery to me if the trip computer was dead.
