I cant the virus is blocking any attempt I make to open programs

 

In most cases where i have come across a virus like that ihave been able to launch anti virus in safe mode my prefered programs are Superantispyware, Ccleaner and spybot search and destroy

 

The links you speak of just redirected me to google with no ill effects

Can you use the laptop as an external drive on another computer like target disc mode on a mac and run anti virus on it from the other computer?

 

Neilc took care of the links. No idea if that would work GS but I did try connecting my two laptops before with no luck. Ill have to bring it in to try save it. Dont want to format it yet have a lot of stuff I cant lose on it.

 

Don't format it, at the very worst you can get one of the interfaces off ebay that convert a laptop drive to USB, take the drive out and mount it externally on another pc and run the anti virus on it.

Thats how it started with me but I didnt notice because I was flicking between facebook and vortex as well. Damage was done before I knew it.

As said above you can start your laptop in safe mode and run the anti virus from there, or if you've a restore point from before the "infection" use that.. Your laptop is not fcuked, worst case you'll need to reinstall the OS and you'll lose your "data", unless you use an ERD (or similar) to access and copy the data to an external HD.. I can sort it for you if you leave it with me for a day or two if your stuck..

 

Got sorted. Had to boot in safe mode and run system restore from command prompt. Updated everything and ran antivirus to clean up the mess. Seems to be hunky dory now. Cheers all.
