Custom and Classic Car Run in aid of the Jack and Jill Foundation in memory of my son Evan T.

Every year between St. Stephens Day and New Years Day there is a fundraising day held in aid of a worthy charity. This usually consists of a golf and football tournament in the morning followed by truck run in the afternoon and an auction that night. This year we are adding in a car run and big prize draw and placing the fundraising events over two days. All monies raised this year are in aid of the Jack and Jill Foundation in memory of my son Evan T.

Evan T 07.08.2007 ~ 21.08.2008

Evans journey of life began on the 7th of August 2007, 10 weeks early weight a mere 900 grams (less than a bag of sugar). He was in intensive care for 5 weeks and came home weighing 1800 grams in Sept 2007. Evan was such a happy and content baby but in January he was taken into Our Ladys Hospital for Sick Children Crumlin, after contracting the winter vomiting bug, within days he was diagnosed with having no immune system. We then travelled to Newcastle to see specialist to get a diagnosis as to his condition. They couldn't diagnosed his condition but ran genetic tests, these tests would take up to six months to give results but they knew that his immune system didn't work and a simple cold could kill him. The only hope of giving him a chance was bone marrow transplant. We returned to Ireland and Evan was placed in Isolation and inserted a central line into his heart to feed him and give him antibiotics incase of infection. A long road lay ahead of him, although he picked up a few infections, dealing with the winter vomiting bug he still gained weight and was such a little fighter and always managed a smile throughout his sickness everyday. The staff and doctors in Crumlin were amazing whom had now become part of our family, best of all was my wife for her 24 hour round the clock car of our son Evan. This was not easy living in a room 10 ft x 8 ft made of glass walls with just a fold up bed and a sink in the room. But Evan made it all worthwhile with his beautiful big eyes and his gorgeous smile. Sadly in the early hours on the 19th of June 2008, Evan took multiple seizures which damaged his brain, over the next two weeks the specialist, doctors and nurses done everything they could but his brain had been damaged beyond repair. On the 4th of July we got the news no parents should ever have to hear our son was terminally ill with a rare genetic diseases known as HSS and was going to die. We were told Evan and two maybe three weeks to live and that he wouldn't see his first birthday. Evan being such a fighter he had other ideas and as his birthday grew closer we got the strength to bring him home to celebrate his birthday and live out his last days surrounded by his brother and family. He had the best birthday ever on the 7th of August 2008 but sadly on the 20th of August he took a turn at home and had to return to Crumlin Hospital and in the early hours of the 21th of August held tightly in our arms Evan was called to the angels.

Getting Evan home for those last special days, that we will treasure for the rest of our lives would not have been possible without the help and support of the Jack and Jill Foundation.
