Hi all,
I'm just starting this thread to try and raise awareness from this side of the pond regarding the defective Siemans injector system fitted to the 170bhp 2.0 16V Tdi PD engines in various Volkswagens,Audi's,Skoda's and Seat's.
Just a brief explanation for anyone not affected. AFAIK the Siemans injectors were fitted to this engine (PD) to bring emissions in line with EU regulations. These injectors fail regularly and commonly and can be very dangerous. Once the injector goes down the a very brief warning -Engine Fault Workshop' appears on the dash and then the Ecu completely shuts down. From the time the problem is diagnosed you have about 2-3 seconds before you lose all power including no steering and no brakes. If you happened to be tipping along at 100 kph or overtaking this could have catastrophic results as you can imagine! The cost involved in this repair is huge. One new injector is E600 + VAT. Also when the injector goes down it dumps a load of diesal into the cylinder which in turn completely blocks the DPF. As a forced regeneration of the DPF is not reccommended by manufacturers the only fix is a new filter at E1000+.
However this is not about cost or trying to blag free injectors or DPF's. It's about raising awareness of this potentially fatal flaw on these cars which to this point VAG completely disregard and only put down to 'coincidence'. It's not good enough.
There's a campaign being started on virtually every VAG forum now so as to try and bring this to the attention of VAG and to show that this is not a 'coincidence'
I would really appreciate if anyone affected by this would post here with maybe a brief explanation of how it happened and any repair costs incurred.
Even if you're a VAG owner and you're not affected by this it would be interesting to hear you're comments?
This is just a link to my specific problem which happenend only this week..
