Hey all, I'm going to try to take a few pics as I go along to document the "progress" on this car.
For those that don't know this is the '95 passat TDI wagon that Garry found for me for cheap.
One of the reasons it was so cheap is that the car is completely destroyed inside and smells horribly of dog.
I started in earnest to try to clean it today, but there is a lot ahead to make the car even somewhat habitable.

Here's some pics for starters:

Not too bad from the outside...

I am going to kill this new vacuum trying to clean this car.

Image

That stuff on the bottom right is a dog hair drift...

What used to be the backseat

From the rear

She needs some other work as well, the rear suspension feels nautical...and there are a variety of other issues, she starts on the button tho...and looks OK under the hood (bonnet).

I told you a power washer from the front seats with the boot open... LOL...

The interior can be sorted handy enough, and mechanically its sound, its a fixer upper, you did want something to work on...

Just thinking, would be different if you put 4 seats into her, put 2 front seats in the back??

Not them front seats, another set from some other car, I would take the back seats and carpet out now, it would make cleaning her a lot handier, they are coming out either way??

I took all the mats out and tossed them, I also took out the liner in the boot area, I don't have anywhere to get rid of the seats so they stay in...had to give up on cleaning after 3 hours or so due to the fecking rain. If I take the carpets out I probably won't put them back in...might make this a true stripper...no carpets or headliner...as that is disgraceful as well. I have to see if anyone has all of these interior parts and if they are willing to sell them cheap...might be easier to replace everything rather than trying to clean any of the parts that aren't hard plastic. Honestly I am actually impressed with how completely filthy this car is....

...most be how every 'old giffer' passat owners rolls; previous owner of my B2 was 'an agricultural technican' in his 'autumn years, took to using the 'aul passat' round the farm... here is a pic of it after I initially cleaned out several jumpers, jackets etc etc...

... about 6 window boxes of clay were in the footwells; I recently evited a militant colony of ants, and binned the lot, caperts seats and sounddeadening; it smelled rank but with the interior stripped that has gone; back to smell of oil and diesel lol.

hmmm yeah I'm thinking that stripping everything out is the way to go...metal smells good...just need some floormats...

I had to open the round 'bung' things on the floor to wash out 'ant city' in an act of mass genocide... was surprised how rust free the floor was considering the rotten carpets and 2inches of clay/much/farm byproduct in each footwell; I'll take a pic when it stops raining...
...best of luck with your new aquisition BTW; was on the mobile to gary, as i would have 'liberated' its engine, but glad it went to someone like yourself 'in need of a car'...

QUOTE (t.d @ Aug 3 2009, 11:20 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Will have some cheap coilovers for sale after the scally rally is over too if you are interested. mk3 gti front seats go straight into these btw.

Interested....how about VERY interested, was just scouring ebay and my U.S. sources for that very thing...the suspension is knackered as it is...so might as well replace it with something lower.

When is the scally rally over?
