This is my latest acquisition, its an American sold and exported to Canada and imported to Ireland 1987 mk2 16valve, looking around the car there are a lot of subtle little differences as can be seen from the photos, exterior wise the square headlamps, banana lights on the wings, the side mouldings, the rear lights and bumpers bonded windscreen, 14" snowflake wheels with centre caps are all different, interior wise, leather steering wheel, dash speaker covers, the seats im told were designed for vw by recaro, they are half leatherette bucket type, the car has air con and a sunroof, black headcloth, doorcards are different, the rear seatbelts are lap rather than shoulder inertia, rear high level 3rd brake light and a 1 piece carpet set which has a kick panel to the right of the accelerator pedal, the gearbox tunnel maybe ?, thats all i can think of at the moment, im sure the gurus will pick out other little differences too, more to follow as i get more info on the car,

Slick out lad, really digging the stripe

Did a grille come with it? A westy would really set it off.

Best of luck with her.

Looks solid enough. They came with jetta lamps from the factory. You should raid the piggy bank and try to get a westie front for it. Ive a 42mm seat manifold and tb you can have for nout if you want to get it running.

thanks for the comments lads, as i said above the shell is spotless ,because of what i paid for it i initially thought it was only good for parts but i still cant get over how clean it is, Glenn the manifold is actually inside the car but im not sure about the tb as i didnt look that closely so i may be in touch, im sure someone on here must know the car of old as it has a club GTi sticker in the back window and also i dont know how long it has been in the country, hopefully i'll get a chance to pull everything out of it over the weekend to see what exactly is there, also anyone any ideas what i should use to clean the mould off the seats......

thanks Simon

Baking soda on a damp cloth dude, cleans it off and acts like a neutraliser. Let it dry out then shampoo the hell out of them to get any remaining white marks from the soda out

Had the same problem with my mk2 when I left it in a shed for a year.

Take out all the seats and carpets, if you do it in strong sunlight, it kills off mould pores very well.
Vacuum up the worst stuff
If you can get your hands on a vax or some kind of Vacuum Carpet Washer with a mix of vinegar and water.
Once your done youll be left with a stink of vinegar so either run it over again with baking soda and water in the vax, or just do it all by hand.

Or valet it (probably worth it if its really bad)

edit.. mugly beat me too it, but the baking soda wont leave stains or marks as long as its not put down in heavy amounts and if its diluted well
