Not sure why I am posting, because at this stage, I've accepted that I wont get the car back... but maybe a lessen for other car drivers.

Car was stolen on 8 July - probably around 03:00 from outside my house in Clonsilla, Dublin, while I slept upstairs. They broke the lock on the front door, went into the kitchen, stole the keys, the spare key and a small amount of cash. I discovered the car was gone at 07:30 when I woke up for work. Its hard to describe the feeling of seeing your car gone and the front door ajar.

I Reported it to Blanchardstown who came fairly quickly and finger printed the place, but said that in all probability, the car had been watched for sometime and it was stolen to order and it was unlikely to be recovered. Most probably the plates were changed and driven across the border and onto a ferry. The car doesnt appear to have gone through any Toll barriers.

Red, 5 door, 08 D 18233, DSG gearbox, Centre arm rest, Steering wheel controls, cruise control and Factory Fitted blue tooth.

Christ I miss that car.

The real sickner is I filled it to the brim with Petrol that night and they could have driven the length of Ireland without stopping for juice. I'm probably gonna get totally screwed over by the insurance company.

To the cnut that stole it... I hope you die a slow horrible painful death.

Sorry to hear bout the car, cant imagine how it feels to have someone go through your house and you asleep upstairs.. Thank god you nor anybody else in the house was hurt..

Too many of these threads appearing lately.. makes me sick to think that some people (the thieves) think this sort of behavior is ok..

...not exactly what you want to hear from the gardai the day after finding your car's nicked; I sure they could have given you soome hope...
...there are some right lowlives out there; they obviously have no fear, these scumbags, breaking into a house to steal keys...

Yeah, I know what youre saying, but on some level I appreciated his honesty... he said it would be investigated alright, just didnt think it would be recovered based on the style of the burglary - a lot of high value items werent stolen in the kitchen- i.e. they only came for the car and it wasnt going to be used in a joyride / further crime. Stolen to order.

On the upside - as everyone tells me - I'm blessed that I DIDN'T wake up - as I would have only went down and challenged them... and that would have ended badly.

cheers lads,

couple of ropey lads round our way in kilcock last night looked like they were checkin out the wheels on peoples cars as the drove very very slowly in our cul de sac.wouldnt be too sad to see mine go as they are in ribbons but some nice motors with nices whels there too.

sorry to hear about your motor lad but could always be worse.friend of mine was woken by two lads in his bedroom holding his kettle freshly boiled lookin for his car keys.

Sorry to hear that, there's far too much of this going on, you can have nothin these days,
Keep the head up though, I don't want to give you false hope but a lot of the time they park them for a few weeks in carparks to make sure there's no tracker's on them and if they think theres any chance of being caught they'll leave it there. My cousin had his M3 stolen last year and was found a few weeks later in an underground car park undamaged.
Best of luck anyway, I'm sure everyone will keep there eyes peeled....

Thanks all for the sympathetic words... no pix unfortunately, but now that you mention it - there was distinguishing feature which I believe is unusual for GTI's. The radio antena at the back of the car was part of a "special" black car phone ariel, that looked awfully like the BMW "shark fin", at the back of the car - same positioning as the BMW shark fin too. Couple of people had asked me what it was for before and I believe its unique to cars with the factory fitted bluetooth car phone system.

Thanks again everyone

Hey Ger, very sorry to hear about that... it almost happened to me about 18 months ago but I woke up (or should I say my missus woke me up!) just in time, and I somehow managed to scare the feckers off before they actually got into the house. It put the frighteners on us big style. I always have my keys in the bedroom beside me... not sure if thats a good thing either mind you.

You're correct about the aerial. If you had factory-fit bluetooth, you got the shark-fin / bee-sting combination aerial that they also fit to the cars with factory-fit Sat nav. So, as you say, it looks like the BMW-style shark-fin, with the bee-sting aerial sticking up out of it! It would be fairly distinctive to those in the know for sure.

EDIT: I found a pic!

Sorry to hear about the car cant imagine the feeling, there was a bit of a discussion about key locations here before, best one i heard was leave them at the top of the stairs, If their wimps they wont come up looking for them. And if they are complete scum and do come up they'll get them before having to check bedrooms.

To be honest if someone has the balls to come up the stairs, probably pumped full of adrenaline i wouldn't exactly like to challenge them when half asleep

Hate to hear these storys make`s my blood boil did you have an alarm on house maybe this would have frightened them off maybe keep a sword beside your bed best weapon you could have they won`t be able to block a swipe of that might stop this happening again, hope you get it back in one piece.

Call the gardai and let them know and next time take a reg number!

OP sorry to hear about your car make sure to put it up on all the forums. Goodluck!

Thanks all for the kind words again.

JoeGTI - thanks very much for the picture... thats the one alright... couldnt find a pic yesterday on the web. I might send it on the Gardai in case it would be of any help.

I'm in two minds about the keys. Chances are they were determined to take the car and that would have meant coming up the stairs to me. I think youre right... top of the stairs is the happy medium.

I have an alarm on the house, but never switched it on that night... thats why I think the house had been watched for a while and were probably watching me before went to bed as the thiefs would have been able to see me switch it on as I went to bed (and from a long way away too).

All well and good untill they take it off you and use it against you. Don't forget you'll be lying down and asleep when they will be awake and adrenalin pumped. Not very good advice.

Hope you get your car back Muppet Man. On a positive note Mike's car was recovered as was that Evo that went missing a few months back. Both in one piece and unscathed.

Uncle of Mine had his car robbed in Dublin there not so long ago. The plates were changed but whatever dope robbed it kept it in Dublin. His wife spotted one that looked like it and happened to still have her key on the Keychain still. Pressed the button and hey presto it worked. If only they could all work out this easily

So sorry to hear that,
A friend of mine had his mk5 gti stolen too but the robbers couldnt find the keys in the house so he woke up with a guy holding the kitchen kettle in his hand filled to the rim and boiled, he said he was going to f*ck the boiling water in his face if he didnt give him the keys....
He got away and no sign of the car since!! He drives a more low-key passat now...

If anyone is interested I know a guy who does trackers at a very good price...
I think it helps insurance cost and you have piece of mind...
PM me if you like.
