That's only about a hour's work when you look at the part's.
How come the part's adding up to 500?
MK4 or MK5?

What sorta labour rate they charging?

the rod and rod end are simple, are they all on the passenger side?? I would tell them to feck off, 300 euro for an hour or so of work? No wonder dealers are shutting down all over the place I no lads that would do all that for a fraction of the price and there not cowboys either, what a load of bollocks.

One saturday morning and a few tools you will do this yourself

I'm after getting new discs and pads, trackrod end, both inner tie rods, front flexible brake pipes and a drivers cv joint for €300 and of that €200 was parts and the rest was labour inc having to drive it into town to be tracked. I wouldn't dream of paying any main dealer prices anymore.

Not defending maindealer but I agree with timmy in that I'd doubt if you'd do all that in an hour. 2 maybe more would be more like it. Think about it.

ah jaysus yeh sure id say you would struggle now to buy genuine filters oils etc and do it yourself for that the way the prices are goin

Some dealers have lowered their prices a lot, like Fosters quoted €610 for the 40,000 mile service on my Polo with brake pads in 2007. I paid €170 for the 60,000 mile there a few months back (I know I could have gone to better &/ cheaper places, but it's handy for work).

I remember them quoting me €1,100 for the 50,000 mile + T/B on a 1.0 polo in 2008, so they had a long way to fall

My A4 needed 2 new wheel bearings, TB / water pump / new front disks and pads / change of Gearbox fluid etc and a service.

Vw said €1600

When in england i bought genuine parts in Audi Lincolnshire €650
My mechanic to install and do above jobs €350

€600 saved and still genuine parts

You wouldn't be much over the hour if your rushing a bit, max hour and a half.
Keeping in mind that you get used to job's after doing them so many times
