Mate you need to get on your bike and head over to midnightclub.ie.
Why buy a car with no licence?
You planning on driving it with no licence?
What if you crash and hurt somebody?

Crazy if you ask me.!!

From what I hear about them you'll learn plenty if you buy one, like changing engines, gearboxes, etc. !!! LOL

Pile of scrap, with 1700 notes you could by plenty of other yolks, there's a nice mk3 GTI for sale on here for less, would be a better bet in my view and at least you'd have something when your done

I know i'm going to sound like an auld lad here but for F**k's sake if you have no licence stay off the F**k'n road, there's a reason why young people cant get insurance in this country and that's some of the reason, uninsured drivers!
Nothing ever happens until it does.

Stick to the fields at the very least until you get you license, all fine and well until you mow some poor young woman taking her child out for a walk, you'd never see the light of day again.

Oh and about the car, if you do buy it, my advise (since your asking) raise the back, get rid of the front splitter, ALL the stupid stickers ("sticker bombing" ffs

Whoever thought thats a good idea ought be shot) and remove green "details" and the sunstrip and it might be a clean looking wagon. Silver alloys wouldn't hurt either.

I really dont understand this thread... your spending 1700 on a pug.. while your saving for a vag.. but you have no licence.. and you dont want to ruin a nice vag on the roads you'd be driving..
Am... Yes..

Do we need some

Vw's aren't that special that you need to be worried about ruining one on your roads. Besides, you'll only be ruining it, no matter how bad your roads are, if you can't be bothered maintaining it. And if you can't be bothered looking after it your clearly not an enthusiast, which would make you... a boy racer?

Hence my "if" misnomer

If its vag's you like don't bother with the pug and just go straight for the vag, it'd work out about the same to buy, you'd get a mk3 tdi for far less, and an early mk4 (even possibly a gt tdi) for that kind of money, and its 1.9 instead of 2.0 so cheaper to tax.

Well seens that you reckon im a boy racer and dont like to mantain wath i own then why do i spend over 10 hrs washing, cleaning and polishing my dads truck every weekend and get complimented on how well i look after it for the work it does. ive looked for clean mk4 tdi golfs and there all up on 3 and 4 grand

Id try out using something very cheap, maybe something that needs a few bits to be done for the nct. It'll get you started on how cars work and how nothing goes back together as easy when you took it apart. I did the same thing with a mk2 gti before. Bought it when I was 16 and took stuff apart and put it back together for the sake of it. Took it down my road the odd time and blew the gearbox doing a burnout out the side of my house

. Sold it off for the same money I paid for it and learnt loads in the process. Enjoy

Thanks Ptank you understand wath i mean. im pretty sure its safer for someone to be learning how to drive since they wer young and doing abit of driving down quiet back roads rather than someone thats done a few lessons with there dad and there 12 mandatory lessons that isnt near safe one the road. Im no boy racer my dads a truck driver so im always learning bits about the road from a professional driver i know more about the rules of the roads than most my age and alot of ones that even have the licence and have passed by the skin of there teeth. ive spent hundreds of my own money buying cleaning products only the best meguairs, auto glym, chemical guys, auto smart so i dont see how its fair that someone comes on and attacks me for wanting abit of advice on something that i said i want to buy for playing with and learning a few bits about fixing and so on

I dont think anybody here is attacking you for wanting to buy a car to mess around with, something I done before I got my licence.
What I and others are narked at is driving on public roads without a licence. Anybody that is paying insurance will know what I'm on about, we end up paying a premium for accidents involving uninsured/unlicenced drivers.

Yes but theres no need to come on and say im a boy racer and dont like to maintain my car. Just to clarify me messing abut in car doesnt mean going on main roads or busy roads just a bog road thats close to my house you will only meet massey 135's and sheep on them roads so i dont see any real danger plenty of people have leanred how to drive on it. it would be mostly messing about in yards and so on
