Lads,

I'm trying to get silver roof bars over from the States for the Touareg but the lad tried DHL/FedEx and one other company, they were looking for $400 to ship them to Ireland, surely there is a cheaper way around this, maybe post with insurance I dont know, any help would be great.

Cheers

David

I dont know about cheaper ways - but who ever you get to send it make sure you mark it GIFT or you'll no doubt get stung for VAT.

Careful also that you don't get stung for excise duty. I got caught last year. Anything over €75 and you'll end up paying.

The value of the goods has to be marked on the parcel be careful because some shops /outlets will put down the value as that of the goods + P + P - get sweet with the guys in the shop explain the scenario get them to be kind on the value and mark it GIFT - i gave this advice to a mate buying a DJ mixer from the states once he didnt follow it and the postman arrived with his mixer and a bill for the outstanding VAT it was either pay it or they were having a disco in the post office that night!

Best of luck with it.keep us informed,

Yes i presume so ive only ever dealt with shops mainly music equipment and records - marking it gift is not a definite way mind you but it never did me any harm.

mark it gif, doctor the value and hopefully you get away with it.
