The situation is that for years the soak pit for our septic tank at home has not been working properly. Soakage out of it is shit and this is afta three attempts at fixing it. Is there anyone that knows someone in the cork area that deals with situations like this or can anyone give anyhelp / recomendations ?

I had a good bit of trouble from mine mainly because the outlet of the septic tank was under the water table in the
winter month's, I sorted it by connecting a sump (or small tank) to the outlet and put a pump in it,
This pumps it up onto a new soak pit which i have approx 2 inch's under my lawn,
Works perfest now all year around, great piece of mind with it.
maybe thats not the problem your having

Thanks for the help il have to look into one of them. Sounds like that could sort it, i think my father will try anything at this stage but there is bad perculation where i am so il have to give it a test during the week...

Thanks for the comments and help lads, there is no one local willing to deal with these anymore they are all trying to sell us a new treatment plant which is a bit of a last resort

throw a raw chicken into it. had a lecturer tell me once that this increases the bacteria in the tank and breaks down the shite quicker but its only a short term fix.

Make sure he didnt use land drainage ducting for the perculation piping.. huge commen mistake!!! its designed to take in water not release it! Best is to use 4" wavin sewer pipe and cut with a consaw.. Cut about half way through every 4 inchs across the width of pipe, and have the cut side faceing down to the gravel.. each pit must be at least 15 meters long with a vent at the end. piping must be nearly level!you also need about 3ft of pee gravel under each of the 4 perculation areas.and dpc over the piping to stop too much garden water and dirt fom clogging up all the soat pit.. also get the tank serviced

. I dont tink theres much servicing to this system, shit goes in water goes to perculation area.It was badly built from the start because the stuff coming in just breaks the seal on the top and this is killing off the bacteria and causing the pipe to the perculation area to clog and the fact its over 25 years old doesnt help

. doing a newperculation area like you mentioned would be the way to go
