sorry meant to write test drive in the title

Today i wa slucky enough to get to drive the new scirocco in the 1.4TSI guise. It is a standard version of the car beside the 18' rims. I always thought that this engine was rubbish but I must say I was surprised by how good it was. The drive was a bit rough for a standard car but it pulls through all gears, the only downside is that you have to rev it to get the most of it and under around 2000rpm the throttle doesnt respond much.
Handling wise it is brilliant I was surprised about how fast i was going around the corners and the car sticks to the road.
I think it retails at 23000€ here in france or thats wat my mate paid for it and it is an amazing car. I'm just dying to get to drive it again and i'd say its gonna be even better when he gets it remapped!
Just wanted to share this as I was happily surprised.
Also wondering does anyone on here owns a scirocco?

None here on the site I think.

Why did you think it would be rubbish? 160bhp(tsi revision) out of a 1.4 with a turbo and supercharger lumped in?..if anything it sounds like a pretty good engine! Not just saying this because I own one but the tsi engine was the reason I went for the golf over an a3.

You do have to rev it to get the most of it but it doesn't take much and the power in 2nd gear at 2500rpm+ is what the engine is all about really in my opinion. The engine has its problems though and low rpm is one of them. Its jumpy and rough and it will drive like a regular 80bhp 1.4 until the supercharger kicks in. At 2000rpm the supercharger should be doing its work though with the turbo getting ready to spool up.

I don't know how much heavier the scirocco is than the golf but I really think the scirocco needs the 2.0 tfsi to get the most from it. Its growing on me a lot though. Oh and one of my major concerns is the rear headrests... how did you find that? You can't even see out the rear window!

thought the engine wasn't great exactly because you have to rev it up and under 2000rpm it simply feels like you are driving a normal 1.4 but when I got to drive it I was really impressed after the 2000rpm the engine is awesome!!!! I think that engine is plenty enough for the car or at least it is if you don't wanna lose your licence to quickly!!!!
As for the headrest it is true you can't see anything out back but I didn't really care and here in france you wouldn't really need it as there aren't many cars able to keep up with it anyways! But i'm guessing that when you're trying to park it can be very anoying!!!
The thing I found weird is that the power delivery isn't a brutal as it used to be in my corrado but I'm pretty sure the car is faster.

Good short review of it there. They don't seem to be all that popular over here but I guess thats due to not too many people buying 09's! I think it will eventually be the better seller over the Gti especially with the 2.0tsi engine. I could imagine parking being a nightmare alright! The seats are pretty good though!

Can someone tell me how the 2.0tsi differs from the 2.0tfsi?

Give me an 09 GTI any day!! Did you see the boot?
Youd barely fit a dozen eggs in there!

The TSI is chain driven while the FSI had a timing belt, thats one thing, but I think they are very different, I think the TSI has an improved fuel pump also.

Performance wise the TSI has more in the mid range whereas the FSI seems to rev more, from what I've read.

Another is that it is alot easier to change an air filter on the TSI, I don't know who designed the the air box for the FSI but I don't think you could make it more awkward, building it into the engine cover.
