i'm going on this. mentioned to a mate and he's found an 1988 (we think) BMW 525. it's on swedish plates and needs a wing and a head lamp so we agreed to buy it for €120 if all the paper work is in order.

100 bangers heading to madrid. this should throw up a few laughs.

I presume this is a one-way ? looks like fun.
Damien

Dubtrend have you entered?

I'm interested, just have to find a crew to come with me, lostsa maybes and no defo's yet!

funny, I thought this tread was dead!

Have you looked at the 'staples to naples' and 'home to rome' sites, gives a good idea of the event!
G
Dubtrend, take it your Jason on the Sclyrly forum? Was it from is thead you heard about the rally.

Seems to be a good few going, I just registered so we'll see wot happins.

I write the Oldskool features for Slick magazine and im hopin to drag some of the lads along, perhaps a team or 3

Glad to see you got a German whip for the event,LHD too sweet. I will only drive german, and 5series was top o my wish list. Has to be a motorwaycouch really, wot are the guys doin it in a automatic metro for?

probably get the magazine guys to do German Vs Jap and enter 2 teams! Old merc would be nice!

i heard about the rally from this thread alright.

i'm not jason but he's going to be in another car with his wife and another lad. i'm also looking for something BIG as in 730 or bigger
some hope though. i did see some 525 se bm's on ebay though for £100.
again as you say motorway couch as we're prob going to drive home if the cars make it ok. anything for a laugh.

the guy in the metro drives a legacy as his daily car and is taking the metro as a challange. i reckon taking our good bmw will be challange enough!!!

if you come across anything big and interesting let me know as i'm on the look out as we speak.

hope to see you there and let me know what ur driving as i need a good laugh

It's just typical, I was gifted a 91 2L Omega , LHD a month ago, advertised it on one of the cruise sites to get it outta my yard. guy gave me 150 yoyo for it and spent the nite drifting up the hills before the five O took the keys, he told me he got 135 outa it on the N11 before burning both rear tyres off!

Suppose we'll all summer to find a chariot, and the Opel is the wrong sorta german!

Just got my confirmation, Car No: 67

I havnt even got anyone to come with me yet!

Just checked the route, Geneva, the Alps in to italy, Monte carlo, Barcelona, Madrid!

Cant wait for the twisty alpine roads!

We'll have to organise a convoy of cars to travel from Ireland, just to make the event a bit longer for us and get to know the Irish before we hookup with 100 other cars!

Dunno whether to drive or fly back! Flights 20quid at mo!

Need a big German diesel with an extra tank, both full of Red/Green!

drive back for the laugh. and NO NO NO to a diesel. get a huge petrol engine, it's only for a few days and when you put in the shoe i don't want to get stuck in a cloud of your dirty smoke

ya the route is the job. looking forward to now that i've actually put my name down for it.

i was thinking that all the irish cars should meet and travel together. would be a good way to get to know everyone on the ferry over.

are you doing it for charity? we're thinking we probably will. bout time i did something nice for a change

For charity? Im a tight git, so was thinkin as you only have to give 17% of your takings or something, that you could fund the trip and give wot ever is left to charity..........

Nah I hadnt really thought of that, but I had been thinking of the costs, Ferry to uk, then to france and all the fuel, hotels, and fuel home, even though the motors cheap, the trip wont be.

Alot of the teams are doing it for charity, who are you thinking of doing it for?

i wanna stay a day or 2 in spain b4 headin home!

Your from Cork, where will you sail from? I'd sail from Rosslare I think or is there a Cork to Calais sailing?

Think I'll be scanning the Bargain buys in trader for the next few months!

Merc 190, cosworth stylee!!! Hmmmm Volvos are soooo cheap but can I bring myself to buy one? Old Granadas? Cant do Modern Fords though!

we might do it for child aid (i think it's called). noy sure of this
yet. we haven't made up our minds about anything yet as i'm off on
holidays saturday for a week. when i'm back we'll sit down for a "team"
meeting and sort out these things.

we will probably have to sail from rosslare too. no ferry to calais that
i know of.

i just heard about a volvo 850. needs an air-bag but meant to be running
well. depends on money and cost of air bag. might give trynors a call
later. mind you, as u said, a volvo. not sure if i could drive it.

merc 190 cossie would be a nice yoke. cannot imagine that a cheap one of
them would make it there.

my idealy yoke is a bmw 525 or bigger with air con. tall order but there
has to be cheap ones up north or in england. do you know of any good web
sites for looking for cars in england or up north?

if your going, put your location here

I didnt mean an actual cossie, just a regular one, as theyre cheap and the slam it!

wot ever I drive will be slammed, grinders with be at the ready and springs will be cut!

forget about gettin the airbag for the Volvo, just get a regular wheel, if you need to put it tru the NCT take the bulb out o the Airbag light!!!! air bags will cost a bit!

Bimmer would be good, RWD, but Im hoping for a merc, either ways a sled from the fatherland!

My only problem is gettin someone to come and share costs at mo!! no doubt I'll sort it by Sept but for now it'd be nice to have a krew decided on!

The jammer will have to be tru to the teachings of Hoodride!

some yokes on that site. well tasty.

would the volvo pass without the airbag? i'd be up to disabling the light. fuck it it's only for a week or so. hardly worth worrying about. mind you, not sure i want it, would prefer something less old manish.

i always had a soft spot for the e200. late eighties. huge yoke and as you said, a motorway couch.

I'm now down as the co-pilot for Tsars car! Should be a great laugh!!!!1
G
Bohall, we just got a third member, hope you'll be happy with it even if I didnt consult you, but at least he shares our love for the fatherland! Mick 'ML rollin 20's' is up for the role as driver no.3, more discussions on the correct chariot for the trip were had tonite and he's of similar thinking, although counting milage, running the green stuff may be a must!!!

'Whip of choice' now also considering, 300D, 190 or ole oilburnin pissrat estate with hood treatment!
Pissrat estate sounds good! 190 is a bit cramped for three if we're including Mick "the digger", 300+ i recon!
that sounds like fun. would be great crack lads. na Tsar the volvo will not suit you at lol. id go with barry on the passat cheap , and if the worst should happen youll get parts farily handy over there. brave man having mick in there as well lol. youll all have a great laugh. now all you need it little mick from slick.
