My plan for my house has always been hard wood sash windows but I'm struggling to raise the money so I'm gonna throw some cheap pvc windows in so I can move on and get it plastered and move in, Munster Joinery are coming to price it but has anyone priced windows lately and found some one cheaper/better for similar price, I would never have considered munster but lately they have upped their game, so what ye think?

munster haven't upped their game.

we don't use them. ever. they're windows are still a 50mm section and their frames are un insulated. we use a crowd who are more reliable, similarly price, 70mm section as standard and a far better window.

ring martin and tell him conor doyle sent ya and he'll look after you. he'll give you a price off the plans aswell. i just don't know if he'll travel up the country.

Kenco Windows 8343306

They did my parernts house years ago and also recently when they got some work done. Family run business and the brothers that fitted the windows where super quick and their work was very very tidy. They have also done a load of the houses in the area. Couldn't recommend them enough.

Worth a phone call

My last house had window from Munster Joinery, they were terrible. If they have upped their game at all they will still be bad. I would avoid them. Cant reccomend anyone in your area, but I would look north. Try Senator windows in Crossmaglen and Mourne windows in Hilltown. You can bounce one off the other til you get a price that YOU arr happy with.
Have a look over on boards.ie Construction & Planning

Munster joinery came to do my parents house last week.what a shower of cowboys!please listen to the advice and keep clear.they made bits of the window boards, the plastering was brutal and unacceptable.they had to chip it out and re-do.they made 3 balcony doors before they got it right and made 2 patio doors out of error.Senator were 500quid cheaper but we went for mj.its the fitting crew we had,not all are bad,the lads who re-did the work were good.the windows themselves are top class. The quality dived during the good times is what I hear bout them. My 2cents ;-)

Thanks for all the advice lads, I've a couple of lads calling tomorrow to price them, I also called the joinery that priced me for sash and he said he'd price me for 'non' sash hardwood traditional style so fingers crossed he can sort something for me!!! I'd really like not to have to fit pvc, I guess I look at my house like a car, much as I'd love a set of rs's I'll have to make do with 100+ or some other dung!

Why do want hardwood so bad?
We changed our windows purely because they were teak....sick of bondex'ing them and varnishing them once a year! awkward to do to upstairs windows let alone the attic windows! Twas fairly dodge up on a ladder up that high with the wind round ere!
When the sun blisters the varnish, they quickly look tatty.
PCV- job done

Red diesel is spot on- play them on price. Play them back and fourth and you'll get the price your happy with

PCV- job doneProblem is you're using a low grade product to maintain your joinery , pvc is , in my opinion , cheap and tacky on a new build or renovation

there a life time job, very strong, smooth, and quality productRationel stopped manufacturing here over 2 yrs ago and are now importing

Do you have pdf drawings Cliff?
I've 2 people i could refer you to , 1 pvc and 1 traditional sliding sash
Both leave top work , the sash windows would give a snowman a horn!!

They used to manufacture in edenderry , your ones are deffo imported so.
Many of the joinerys are importing now [wrights etc]

The Rationel gear is very good tho and they have a good aftersales service.
We maintained 230 of their windows last year on a development. They were Nordic pine, between 18mths and 40mths old and had suffered very little moisture ingress compared to their competitors.
They use a Teknos lacquer system which is expensive but you get what you pay for...

Are the alu-clads powder coated?
How long do they last?

They are powder coated.. lovely finish. they didnt even get scraped when plastering, so id say they will last a hell of a long time. Also they will paint them any RAL colour.. Cant say enough good things about them. The internal side of the windows are all nordic pine.. Very tasty.

Yea nordic pine is very nice once it's maintained correctly
Sad part is , the joiners didnt tell the developers they require maintenance ever 2 years and there are 100's of developments around the country lookings like shite only a few years on
Depending on exposure and elevation you might get 18mths from a south facing exposed elevation to 3 years on a north facing side

The powder coat will go a little flat but you might be talking 10 years on a south elevation which is as good as maintenance free in my opinion

Are their windows A rated now? Are they 4/16/4 and argon filled?
Soft bar seems to be the way forward now to achieve A rating

Dont get me wrong , bondex is fantastic on internal joinery , i used it in my own place , but externally it just doesnt cut the mustard or even the fcukin grass
