hey
so as some of you know i bought a mk2 16 valve gti recently and its sitting outside ready for its life as a project to begin. the car is really in good nick. no rust under body or on the wings or sills at all. there is two small patches internally which i'll get pics of at some stage. the car is really in good nick despite seemingly not being looked after internally. serious mess in there.

the immediate plans (as in by mid juneish) are:

strip interior and clean and paint all exposed metal.
fit new clutch.
cut, compound and wax.
two patches of rust under both rear windows cut out and fibreglassed with new window seals.
spray all plastics and fix up some scuffed paintwork.
spray and fit 15" alloys which i have lyin around and will do for the moment.
fit all new bits and bobs i am in the process of gathering.
Image

send interior to have bolsters restuffed and trimmed in leather.
fix all little niggles on interior and fit new 16 valve clocks.
clean engine and maybe get some samco's and polished rocker cover etc.
possibly lowering springs on the front. (its on koni shocks so i reckon it'll be ok with springs for now.)

to follow that maybe by the end of the summer would be:
coilovers (or maybe airbags if i can justify the expense)
scmidt th's or bbs rm's
possible full respray. (it doesn't need it but if the rest of the work goes as planned i may well go for it)

now for the pics.

cheers man. yeah. its all there and only a few niggles to iron out. i can put my individual stamp on it then.

QUOTE (Kevin @ Apr 23 2008, 04:33 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Loads of potential...

You should swop your grill with Pauls as G60's came without the red pinstripe
Image

i'm going single headlight. just way prefer it. already have something lined up for the detailing aswell. bit different. possibly not everyones taste but i think should look good.

by then this car will have gearbox seals replaced, clutch done, inner cv joints, new front engine mount, interior put back in (not trimmed yet unfortunately), new lights all round, new grille, new pads and prob discs, coilovers fitted, new wheels and tyres, stereo in, serious clean and polish, plastics all sorted, front splitter replaced, new door handles, g60 arches and cills fitted and my standard 10.5 hour working day done every day.

yay. no sleep. can't wait.

wish me luck.

oh and a big thanks in advance to the lads that i know are gonna help me out big time. paul, mike and garrett. they're what vagdrivers is all about.

no bother byrno. its not hard to do yourself ya know. i'll even do it for ya if ya want.

fair play to ya mike. how ironic that your gonna have to try and not shag your gearbox while coming over to work on mine.
hope you don't do any damage though.

fair play to mike the legend.

gearbox is now back in the car just needs everything put back in place.

also new grille on and lights all round. huge difference already. well on track for having it on the road by middle of next week. (not being worked on over the weekend hence the delay)

i'll get pics up when coilies and wheels are on. should be looking good. can't wait.

yeah ray. they went on a treat bar. still about twenty mill to go on the front and about forty on the rears.

How are you going to get it over the holes at the end of your driveway? eh?

hey the lower the better. i'll just have to find an alternative route to the road. lol
