Potentially New Idea For Site

Hey,
I was just thinking that would people think it a good idea to have somewhere on the site (potentially a sticky) where members locations would automatically be shown on a map of ireland, once they sign up. I am aware that for members outside of a major town / city it is sometimes hard to know how many / is there any vagdrivers members located nearby. Also it might be handy for new members to get to know people on the site.

My own situation is that I only really know (in person) about 3 people off this site and I live about 5 miles outside galway city. I presume there are loads of members nearby but i dont know of them and as I am not on the site as often as other members I just thought it may be a good idea to help to get to know people. you could just go to this map and select your local area and see how many (or who) is nearby. i was thinking something similar to google maps with the little balloon like things showing peoples locations. members could maybe select whether or not they want their details showing up here. in case they didnt want to be contacted by other members. i think bebo has something like this a few years ago so you could see who was viewing your profile. (that might help explain to people what i am talking about)

Maybe thats what the shows / meets are all about...i dont know. I also know there might be security issues (maybe) with it. but i was just wondering whether people thought this was a good or bad idea. is it realistic?

Stephen

i never thought of this...probably not a great idea so.

Is this not what meet ups are all about? Meeting people from around your area.

I'm sure some folk know where I'm from but i still wont broadcast it over a public forum, at least some piece of mind then.

Good idea all the same if general locations were used, even just counties. I think there was a thread bout where members are from before??

what about just your vagdriver name and the nearest city/town and forget the google map. therefore it would still be kind of vage of where these people and their cars lived. if you could see who lived in the came location/big town/ city, at least then you could pm people of the same city/town and meet up for mini meets or even just for selling swapping parts or info. id love to know who is on vagdrivers and also from kilkenny.

Do you see under your user name on the left of the page?

It says, Group, posts, joined, From, member no.

Put in there, where you are from if you want, if you don't want to, don't.

exactly i don't see the fascination of finding out where everyone is from, most people from the same area will find each other anyway.Look at Brian G he even found love recently by hunting down and stalking a potential VAg-driver in his area
