Marv, Have a look at Michael Leche's www.machine7.com site - He is into all that stuff, used to drill adapters, discs and everything to suit porsche wheels. It so long ago now I have forgotten but most Bugs tended to be on 5.5 x 15" rims. Have a look at the replica Brm's, Sprintstars etc - Magic !

Ok, you can fit any porsche wheel you want it just depends on how deep your pockets are!

Do you have an idea of the style of wheel you want to fit, the type of look you are going for? e.g: Cal, German, Custom, Resto-Cal, hoodride, Oldskool looker, Race/Drag look, etc, etc

Next is are you going to lower the car? Technically you must because it crime punisable by death, not to lower a bug, and the syle police will be out in force!

Then how low do you want to go?

Then you start getting into whether you wanna run disks or narrow your beam!!

The whole look of a car depends on choosing the right wheels, but that alone is no good without the right stance! The whole Hoodride trend proves this, shitters can look hard as .... just because they stance is right!

You have a 71 bug, thats 4 stud!, you wont be able to run BRMs, Sprints etc coz theyre 5 stud!

A 4 stud VW is 4x130 PCD, a Early bug is a wide five, 5x205 PCD
Porsche stud pattern is 5x130 PCD.
Late bays on, up to the T4 use a 5x112 PCD, thats the same as Mercs, bigger Audis and Passats but gives van owners a great selection that the never seem to take advantage of???

The cheapest way to fit Porker rims is to drill your hubs, but this isnt nessesarily the safest! Next up is you can by adapters, these are mostly TUV approved and safe but widen the track and may effect clearance.
Third is to fit disks, but then your into money but will have a cool set up!
Disks can be bought in any PCD!

Usually with bugs etc you will be looking to run a skinnier rim up front, but again that depends on the stance you want!

www.streetstyleandpower.com

Theyre nearly all doing conversion kits these days!

Also go onto www.volkszone.com thats a great resourse for info!

Are you looking at Fuchs, Cups, Cookie cutters or Gas Burners? Fuchs are very common and must be polished IMO, Cups only suit big motored cars! You can now get 4stud gas burner replicas.

Check out the sites!

If you're talking about Fuchs 15x6 are the best value, good offset for a beetle and don't cost as much as
15x4.5 (ÂŁ500 -ÂŁ800 a pair) or 15x5.5 (ÂŁ500 a pair) yes ÂŁÂŁs
Image

Flat4 do great replicas for around €1000 for a set and in 15x5.5 or 15x4.5.

Good advice.

They do 4 stud BRM & Sprintstars replicas now, although granted they do not look as good as their more original 5 lug counterparts. I have a set of Riviera's if interested, but they could do with refurbishment to be honest.

one other thing to consider if switching to Porsche wheels is what are you going to use for a spare? If you go for adapters, you'll have to remove the adapter to use the stock VW spare, if you go for redrilled hubs you'll have both VW and Porsche patterns on your hubs so it's not a problem. If you convert to Porsche brakes or buy VW brakes with the Porsche pattern you'll need a Porsche spare. In this case, look me up as I've got a few options for you... ;-)

oh, for my tuppence worth, go for 17" wheels if you only drive your bug occasionally, go for smaller wheels (15" or 16") with higher profile tyres if comfort is going to be an issue.

The 4 stud BERMs dont look right where as the 4stud are the style that where fitted to Porsche 914's back in the day as they where 4stud!

My mate was runnin 4.5's on the front of the Preacher, and another mate, the Fonz has 4j or sumfin on his ghia, I dont like the fuches you get that skinny as they end up with no lip and the 5spokes sit out past the edge of the rim!!

As far as a spare, you could be cool and get on to Traynors and get a spacesaver from a 911

Jesus lads that a lot of info to take in all at once, i am going to go with the drilled hubs at the present and work my pocket up to changing for discs. i have two guys lined up. one is way to expensive especially if i am eventually going to change ment. the second guy is doing the lot for €100.00!!!!

i think i am on to a winner. now anyone got a nice set of wheels. the ones i have are in badneed of repair, i could use them but they would look very ratty and i want the car to look new as i am having it resprayed at the moment. i have springs on the way in the post. so it will be lowered and i have the front and rear T bars.

The ones in the picture? They're 914 (2litre) Porsche Fuchs, you can pick up a set for around ÂŁ400 on ebay
and the best bit is they fit straight on to a beetle, with a decent offset for lowering

Here's how they look on an 02 -

like Justin said, if you're going for Porsche 2litres then forget about drilling your hubs. They bolt onto the bug. Save your money to refurb the wheels...

Not exact wheels, i have not collected them, got picutre message on phone, collecting on friday and hope to get proper pic! my wheels have full proper centres in colour

nice one. Good price for the wheels. Before you splash out on adapters, offer up a wheel to the VW hubs (one of the bolt holes will match up nicely so you can trial fit it with the car on a jack) and check how well the wheel will clear the springs on the front of the '02. You might find you need to get narrow springs, or wider wings if you use adapters. Do your homework before spending any more money.

Oh, don't polish them, every mofo has them polished. Paint 'em black instead. It's the future, you heard it here first

Adaptors are expensive crap don't bother with them, at ÂŁ100 a pair they add an inch to your track each side, yet drums are only around ÂŁ55 each and discs ÂŁ60ish
Image

www.machine7.com

or just get your own re-drilled, my rear drums are 4x130 and 5x130.

Fair enough Justin, but with those wheels and an '02 he might find himself needing the reduction in offset that adapters give though. There's less space "inboard" of the bolt face of the hub in an '02 or '03 than in a torsion bar bug because of the coil springs...
