Spotted this outside the local dealers today... must say, it looks a very nice machine, I can see it being popular, despite the A4 territory price!

i think its a mistake, their doing what every car maker does, making their mid size car WAY to big, and expensive, leading to poor sales, can you picture these cars pulling cattle trailers in ten years as the 98 passats are doing, and the passats before that.....not saying thats what passats end up doing but theres a fair share of them in every town, other than thats its a fine wagon but im not sure who its aimed at in that price bracket..after all its still called a passat, and i dont think buyers would like to hear people saying '' oh its a passat, christ i had 4 of them, a great yoke'' even though its not really like a passat at all...

I saw a few of them on a Transporter the other day. Lovely looking car & look to be alot bigger than the other Passat. They should've calledit something else alright

i've spotted two so far on the road. nice looking enough for me - and you're right about the badge bringing out snobiness - that's why they couldn't give away the Phaeton in the states where they were selling below cost.....

Great looking car, but there dosent seem to be many varietys of engine available yet. Id like to see it with a decent 3+L TDI engine or the 250+BHP 2.0T engine.

Its a lot better looking than the current A4, I would however take a 3 year old CLS over one, not for the snob factor more the depreciation factor.

Im no a huge fan of buying new cars since the A3 a few years back. Too many teething issues with new models and you don't always get the dealer service you are promised when buying a shiny new car.

As a VW employee I would just like to make a few points clear.

The aim of the passat CC is not to make money directly, VW know it will lose money. The aim is to keep Passat drivers in Passat, and not migrate elsewhere. By introducing the Passat CC it raises the profile of the standard Passat, encouraging existing and new Passat drivers to buy again. People aspire to a particular car. The Passat CC encourages existing Passat drivers to aspire to the Passat, as opposed to the A4 or BMW 3 Series.

2nd, for a person who appreciates a car for what it is, as opposed to its badge, I can honestly say the Passat CC is the first car VW have produced in years that I have actually desired. It is much better looking in the flesh. Well finished, nicely equiped, and I would have one over an A4, C or E Class, or BMW 3 Series any day. Its much nicer to drive.

It may not hold its value, or appeal to all VW tastes, but it is a fantastic car. A VW at heart.

Funny, now you mention it, I don't see cars pulling trailers any more, it's all 4x4 vans now.
