I've posted a couple of my Gti in another thread already, but I thought I'd start a proper project thread.

Not too much has been done yet, besides replacing a few trim parts inside and out that were broken or missing, giving it a good clean and polish and adding a couple of stickers

A few bits have been ordered though and are due to arrive in the next week...

Adapters hopefully this weekend... fingers crossed. Then I'll need some tyres. Dying to get the wheels fitted
Image

And then hopefully when I get my pay cheque next week I'll be ordering some coil overs...

I didn't get any pics but on the weekend I replaced my door handles with a pair of rear handles from a 4 door.

now need to figure out how to wire up the spots - there weren't any as stock...
VR6 Splitter came on a VR6 and VR6 only, hence why its called a VR6 splitter.

10mm spacers ordered, and longer bolts. Picked up a pair of part worn tyres (not in the ideal size, but they'll do for now) and ordered tyres for the front... Now sit back and wait for it all to get here

Was hoping to get coilovers this month, but they may have to wait till the next pay cheque for now.

Tyres & wheel bolts are here. Must try and get the tyres fitted tomorrow and then hopefully get the wheels on over the weekend...

Can anyone recommend a good place to get tyres fitted in the Killarney area? They will be somewhat stretched and obviously the cheaper the better

Came so close to having the wheels fitted yesterday, just one too many hiccup

First, cheap ebay spacers didn't line up correctly and the holes weren't big enough to fit the bolts so I had to drill them all out.
Eventually managed to line everything up correctly & fit two wheels and then realised that the missing bolts on my adapters could not be replaced by standard wheel bolts as the heads are too deep and would foul the spacers/wheels... doh! So I had to take the wheels off again and wait for the missing bolts - hopefully have them tomorrow.

Sickening as the rear wheels were almost perfectly spaced. Once I get the coil overs I'll have to roll one of the rear arches. And I may not be able to go quite as low as I'd like while the rears have they part used tyres fitted as they're 205/50's instead of the lower profile 205/40's or even 215/35s. But they were free so they'll do for now

As soon as they wheels are successfully fitted I'll post some photos

After a few setbacks, I finally got the wheels on today.

It rubbed quite badly like this, so we removed the arches and rolled the rears with a baseball bat

Fitment is pretty much spot on, the fronts may need to come out by another 5mm but not sure yet. It now needs lowering badly, so thats next on the shopping list.

Removed the rear wiper today
much work in removeing the rear wiper?

No more than 10 minutes to be honest. Undo the nut holding the wiper arm on, remove the wiper arm, undo the 22mm nut holding the mechanism tight on the outside. Then remove the plastic panel inside the boot lid (there is one screw inside the handle at least on my GTI, the rest are just poppers). there are two bolts holding the entire wiper mechanism to the boot lid, undo them and the wiring plug and the whole thing comes out. Take out the rubber grommet and replace with a 25mm flat one to cover the hole and job done.
At some future date when I get around to getting the paint work sorted, I'll look into getting the mounting point smoother and filled, but I'm happy with it for now
