There is a proposal put forth by Bernie that next year they do away with the present scoring systems for drivers and replace it with an Olympic style Gold/Silver/Bronze award structure. No more points for a 4th place finish. Had this system been in place for 2008 Massa would be champion with more race victories. Mosley seems intent to not allow this system to be voted in.
I appreciate the motive to increase competition but this seems to be a 'win or die trying' concept. In the high-tech world of F1 there is something to be said for consistency. Although possible under the current system it isn't likely that a driver could win the championship without a race win.
For me a driver getting points for finishing 8th is a joke, also there is a much bigger points gap between 1st and 2nd in the old system, which I think is much fairer.
