Is it a PD or CR ?

I've a PD and she has a lot of Torque but it is delivered in a powerful burst !

The CR (I havn't drove one so i cannot tell you first hand) is supposed to deliver the power through a wider band and reportedly smoother.

If i were you i'd take a look @ Briskoda.net and look for threads that are of interest to you !

Cheers Tom, will have a look and see what I find.
The one I drove today was pretty frisky but very smooth at the same time. I'm almost sure it was a PD. This might be a stupid question but don't know much about the rs' yet, was the CR released at the same time as the PD or is it just a newer engine version.

The CR(Common Rail) engines were released from 2008 onwards so I'd imagine there's an overlap in that year. I've never driven either but from what I've heard the newer CR engines are the ones to go if possible!

The CR is a nice engine. If you stand beside one when it's idling it's very hard to tell if it's a petrol or diesel it's that quiet

Hi Gaz,

I've had a good few Skoda's and bought my first RS last year. It's an '07 so it's PD and as Tom pointed out it's plenty of poke but is delivered in a fair burst alright! Still, you don't hear me complaing though!
Image
As said before the CR is supposed to be a smoother power delivery but i haven't drove one either so can't really comment. The other upside of the CR is if it is a '08 (post June/July) you will get the cheaper tax and it is quite a significant saving on a 2.0TDi so worth considering....

As regards things to look out for i'm not actually aware for any faults to look out for so don't think you should have any hassle there?
Spec wise as far as i know all Irish RS's (as opposed to English ones) come fully specced so it should have the lot.....
Maxi Dot
Auto Wipers
Auto Lights
Jumbo box
Cruise Control
Dual Climate
Mp3

The only thing i wouldn't get sucked in to is some of the mpg figures sites and dealers will quote. I've mine almost 12 months now and have never seen anything over 42mpg,average about 38mpg.
Having said that i have never looked back! Bucketloads of power, shedloads of torque,reliable,comfortable-what more could ya want!?

Go for it!

Enda.

Enda.

Sounds good Enda, test drove an '07 one so it was definately a PD so. Had all the spec you listed in the interior but the weather was good when I drove it so the auto wiper and lights theory wasn't tested
Image
Image
Wouldn't be too worried though. Have to say I was very pleased with the test drive and the saleswoman was dead sound and let me take it for a proper spin and not a mickey mouse drive around town in traffic.
Image
All I really have to think about now is will I go for the trade in deal she gave me or try and sell it privately????
Image

Anyway, thanks for the advice and i'll definately keep you posted in the next week or two when I decide exactly what to do...

maybe i'm wrong but it seems a bit low if thats as good as you're getting.
i had my average mpg up to 45mpg at one stage for a while.
it doesnt stay that high long mind you but i DO drive it on and do alot of stop start urban driving aswell.

get a CR if u can,if u do get a PD make sure its DPF fillter is all good as they gave massive problems,

there a great car and are very smooth, the irsh vRS got a higher spec then the UK ones for some reason.

i had a PD one for a few weeks and it was great but having drivin both id go CR they also remap better and your MPG will also go up as a result

just dont get one in race blue

go look on Briskoda great site and very helpful over there

Hmmph..i'm highly insulted!

I do take on board though the point about the wheels. I could really do with 18" Zeniths...suppose i could also do with posting some pics of the car on here too though....I think silver looks great-understated and classy

Hey Trilly, thanks for the offer but silver was the last colour on my list. Dunno why but just somethin about it that just doesn't do it for me. As far as the race blue is concerned, I know they're common but only one or two down here at home so strongly thinkin about that.

Is yours the PD or CR engine and how do you find it...?
