hello everyone

As my title says I'm new to this forum. been looking through it for a while and it's very helpful

Previously had a 1.9 gt tdi 115 golf...loved it, brilliant car and never had any probs

Currently have a 08 GT Sport 2.0 tdi Reflex silver. Haven't done much to it, just colour coded my front and rear valance, looks miles better. Got that done in Carcraft in Dublin, very professional did excellent work and a pleasure to deal with. Oridonally wanted to get the GTI rear valance with the top section only painted with a GTI/GTTDI 170 backbox, was working out very expensive so just colour coded what i had already.

At present my car is 140bph but I'm thinking of doing a remap, joe at chipped ireland seems to be the man to deal with. Am i completely mad doing a remap when i'm still in warranty?I probably should have put these questions in another section of the forum so forgive me for that. Origonally wanted the 2.0 tdi 170 but couldn't justify the big difference in VRT for an extra 30 brake. Are they the same engine or does the 170 have bigger injectors or something?

Has anyone with a 140 bph 2.0 tdi golf had it remapped with joe? if people could email me back with how they found the remapped differences i would be grateful. Has anyone had any bad experiences with the remap. Apparently its untraceable by VW and insurance, is this true?

Thanks again

Welcome along. If you are thinking about the remap from Joe, you wont have any problems. He knows what he's at. Haven't personally used him but he is highly recommended. I personally remapped my 170 with approx 4k on it, so if its done right the first time you shold be grand. In saying that some people will say to wait till the warranty is out to do it. It is up to you really.

The differences between the 140 and 170 are that the injectors are a slightly system to the 140 and its running a bigger turbo too. The clutch is slightly different too and the 170 runs the Gti brakes with a slightly lower suspension setup. I'm sure there are others too i've forgotten.

There are a couple of people with remapped 2.0 140's and are putting out about 190 bhp i think. Its definitely one of the best things you can do IMO.

ya i was thinking there were a few differences between the engines besides the power. My car looks identical to the 170 besides the exhaust, same alloys etc. Not sure about the brakes, not sure if they're the 312mm ones!if i do map it which i think i probably will in the new year, I'll need decent brakes, no point in all that power if ya cant stop it or myself and the ditch will become one ha ha!as regards the remap have you noticed much of a difference in the mpg's?they say the remap will damage the clutch but i suppose a lot of that depends on the person driving it. I was quoted 400 euro, how does that sound? suppose ya pay for what ya get, no point in being cheap and letting some numpty with a laptop do the job.

I see yours is mapped to 202bph....some animal i'd say, plenty of nervous gti's around?any probs with the DPF?that fucking filter was another reason why i kind of settled for the 140, never pass 4th gear during the week in Dublin so i was afraid the dpf would start to clog up a lot and that it wouldn't get a chance to regenerate. i see now that joe can bypass the filter and remap the ecu so it wouldn't cause any probs with the exhaust sensors.....and as a result less likely to be problematic when mapped high.

have to say i love the 140 but i still wonder about the 170.....lovely lovely bus!!

€400 is normally about right but in these times you could probably get it a wee bit cheaper. the clutch might be an issue if the person that maps it doesn't know what they are doing, but you won't have that problem with Joe. Never had a problem with the Dpf to be honest. Mapping probably helps it when driven right. There's 50k on it and its running better than ever i think.

I was originally looking at the 140 but got a drive in the 170 in Donegal and after that i wasn't going to go back. With regards Gti's, well i reckon its as quick if not a small bit quicker but still getting 50mpg

was behind a 170 on friday eve on the M4, grey, longford reg.....plenty of poke when he wanted it from 80 mph up...very impressive!!

your torque is mental....i'd say that push's you into the seat nicely on acceleration! You should get the gti valance and get the top part colour coded and leave the bottom section black, really finishes off the tdi 170/GTI rears...well in my opinion anyways they look class. valance is around 70 euro and a professional spray job about 250. The guy who did my car last week does it for Annsley VW dealers on their new cars, etc. Really knows his stuff and sound out

I probably will get it remapped in the new year with joe, he seems to be very professional. must ring the insurance to see if it would make much difference to my premium .....one person i wont be telling is my girlfriend, she thinks i'm bad enough on the road as it is!! ha ha!

Anyways thanks for your info, very informative. Might stick a note in a different section of the forum so somebody with their 140 remapped can let me know about the exact gains.

your a carrick man i see, i'm sure i'll see ya ripping along the m4 sometime. oh ya just wondering do ya ever hear of any vw golf meets, like i'm not a total boy racer head but would be always interested in seeing what other guys have done to their golfs

Thanks again

Plenty of meets going on. I have the Caractere rear valance painted the way you were saying. Its a nice way to finish them alright. Clicky

Your car is gorgeous lad, really well finished and i like the contrast with the uncolour coded sections. Very impressed! Just wondering where did you get the front splitter?ebay? is it hard to install? was thinking off installing one on mine

The front lip was bought from VW. Its made up of 2 parts: The valance and the central spoiler. GT Sports already have the valance without the spoiler but it doesn't have the spaces for the clips of the spoiler to fit in.

So you have 2 options: buy just the spoiler part and bond it to the GT valance or buy the 2 parts and fit the whole lot to the car. There are about €50 each from VW. I bought both so it would be spot on.

Where in Galway are you based?

from dunmore,ya hardly heard of it?close to mayo/ross border

I have the my front valance colour coded, do ya think it would be very messy if i bonded the lip onto the gt sport front? fuck i should have bought the full gti front valance, make things alot easier...especially as it wasn't that expensive!

I know it anyways, pass through it when I'm heading into galway. it's got some fairly narrow bits when your coming in from williamstown.
I'm from near carrick too.

Yeah i know Dunmore alright. I'd head that way heading to Galway too.

I suppose if you had time and patience you would manage to bond it but there would be the possibility of it not sitting exactly so its your call. I didnt want that hassle to be honest.

Dunmore...blink and ya'd miss it
Ya your right, not going to bother if it wont sit right, could be messy doing a patch job. it'll just wreck my head looking at it if its not right. reckon i'll leave it as it is.....

Theres a long straight on part of it......was under water a few weeks back.....lethal!!it's always flooding...hit it at around 50 a few years ago, dont know how i didnt wreck the engine or even keep it on the road.....typical council put the road flooded sign right at the edge of the flood. learned what aquaplaning was that night ha ha

I know all about the circuit of Ireland bits of that route, I was in a rush home one night and I think I spent more time hovering slightly above the road than on the dam thing
