SPECS?

I dont think there new speed cameras. That is the list of Speed Enforcement Zones. This list was made up months ago based on high accident spots across the country. Just so people know where they are going to be speed checking so they slow down. Thats the idea anyway.

Taken from website: Speed Enforcement Zones

''Based on this analysis, a list of Speed Enforcement Zones has been developed with the aim of providing information to motorists in order to raise awareness of speeding in these zones. An Garda Síochána will utilize these zones in order to direct speed enforcement activity in a proportionate and targeted manner''.

If your going too fast to notice those white vans then you deserve to get caught!

Fairplay to the lads parking them as everytime I see them they really stick out!

Saw them on m1, navan road and liffey vally/n4

I have seen them in some interesting places in galway.

One was around a bend down hill on a dual carriageway. When ya came around bend he would be a max of 100m away when ya see him.

Also i saw one that was outside a building site. ( Which was up the road from school Fair Enough ) But most people would be hard pushed to take a second look at a white transit ouside a building site.

One of the lads that I work with got caught across from Foxhunter in Lucan.......he reakons it flashed from behind him....so that must mean the van was turned around, zapping after you went past it. Anyone else notice this. It would be a little harder to spot them that way.

Btw do the new ones flash?

Also anyone around Mayo keep an eye out at the bridges around the Charlestown by-pass, that last 2 occasions I came back they have been parked beside the bridge behind a fencing, I actually think its to catch people heading towards Mayo as they are blinded by the fence. People heading to dublin can see them from a long way back.......I can't believe there hands are that steady

Was caught doing 105Km's 5k's over the limit on the way down to Cork the gard was hiding on an off ramp. Was a young rookie female gard all the sweet talking in the world wouldn't change her mind!

How illegal are detectors? does anyone use one?

QUOTE (Alan B. @ Apr 3 2009, 07:18 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>i find that hard to believe to be honest. did you actually get a fine?

i wouldn't. they are f"ÂŁ$ing NAZIs and the off ramp where the used to parh was just at the sign that told you that the mororway ended (before they extended it) so you would just be letting the car slow down of its own accord and you'd get nabbed. they used to haunt the place twords the end of the month to get their detection figures up

inside source or not, thats a myth.
the reason i said i find it hard to believe is because i've NEVER seen anyone done for it. and mainly because the lads operating the guns use a 10mph extra on top of the posted limit as the limit where by they'll pull.

theres a legal requirement aswell.
i'm geussing if anything, he paid it without question as any solicitor worth his salt would have him off that.

Now that I know is a myth. I can show you two speeding fines for less than 10mph over the limit.

Who ever you talk to might use a +10mph limit but not all Garda do. Some are not as forgiving, or nice for that matter.

If i was done for 105 in a 100 i'd be asking some very serious questions. Even at 110 i'd be suprised to be stopped

QUOTE (Gaff @ Apr 2 2009, 05:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Btw do the new ones flash?

Yeah, i saw one of the the new vans flash. Thankfully not for my ugly mug. The last time i got caught speeding was by the traffic cops. At the time he told me he doesn't do anyone until 20km/hr over the limit. I'd say that doesn't go for all cops though.

QUOTE (Alan B. @ Apr 3 2009, 08:07 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>your rite, not all use the 10mph extra but, it is very common practice in the traffic unit.
and there are legal margins which mean you wouldnt get convicted for 5kph over the limit.

Isn't it a 10% margin for the handheld and the Fixed cameras??

There seems to be a lot of variation. The problem is then that if you mention the like of the above, they will get seriously annoyed.

I got threated with Dangerous Driving before for passing a Dublin bus that was taking on a LOAD of people, nowt coming the other way but you think I'd killed someone with the cops attitude. Must say like talking to the wall really

. I do believe that some cops are chancing there arm and don't fully know what they are at (although there's a lot to remember).

i've read it befor, i dont think its actually a percentage.
i think its a figure.

my argument would always be that car clocks dont go up in ones.
i'd never argue the point by the roadside though. you get a fine in the post anyway, not a summons so when it came,
i'd appeal it to the superintendant in writing. failing that, i'd be on to my solicitor.

Didn't acctually get the fine in the end my GF's dad is in traffic corps (handy!!), he got me off it.

Thats gas, that is exactly what happened the motorway ended and it went from 120 to 100 then all i see is the blue lights coming up behind me

My gf's dad said that most of the time the cameras are set to 5 or 10K's over but if the sargent wants he can change them to the exact limit to get their detection figures up it happened in his station.
