Nct Result.

ok the golf failed the test this morning.few minor easy to sort things but one problem.they said there is an imbalance in the front axle/shocks. nearside is 29mm and offside is 51mm so an imbalance of 43% anyone any ideas what the cause of this could be cos your man was of no use at all!!

A fucked shock will cause this.

Had this in my mk2 before when NCTing it
If you replace only one shock you may end up with a greater imbalance. So you will probably need two new shocks or too old ones that are equally fucked

Are the coilovers damping adjustable? Were they new or secondhand when you fitted them?

What are the readings from the rear shocks on the report sheet?

I'm just trying to figure out whether the problem is with the left or the right shock. Normally 51mm would indicate a seized shock but maybe with coilovers it would be a normal reading depending on how stiff they are. In that case the problem would be that the left hand shock is weak @ 29mm. Knowing the readings from the rears should give us an idea though.

well arse!!! gonna get them stripped down to be sure but i reckon with the difference in results your right!!
least i have a month to sort it before she has to get a full re-test
