hello and welcome.

any other pics, i have a soft spot for cabs
heres the link... only took the pics today... they aint great but better than nowt... this was my mams cars for the last 12 years... bought it just before moving over... getting there slowly but surely!!!

mk1 pics
is it a 1600 Cli or a gti, cannot see any badges.

best of luck with the restore, should be well worth your while
It was a 1.5 gl auto on carb's!!! my mam blew the engine a few years ago and wouldn't let me have the car... eventually worked her down... only moved over from england on the 7th dec and brought the car with me... currently that engine bay is empty... not a happy site but time will sort that out...
Looks good, and they look so much better on the move. The shell looks very straight, nothing a good cutting and polishing would'nt sort out. As for biting of more than you can chew, I've seen worse. Post any problems on here and everyone will do there best to help.

Best of look with it, will look smart when finished.

John

ah, she aint that clean... little spots of rust on the wings and trolley dents everywhere!!! ive gotten most of the mechanical stuff done like manual conversion, wasnt easy sourcing a pedal box!
im currently smoothing out the panels and getting it ready for a respray in oak green... filled in the swage line and removed all the trim on one side so far, thing is its a really original car... 57k miles from new and no serious body probs. also got a new hood fitted last march... so its not all bad...
can't wait to get her on the road, would like to fit a 1.8t eventually but thats a long way off yet...
It looks very straight, best of luck with it!

Putting a 2ltr 16v into my 83 GLI shortly.

Whats the hood like on yours? I've been shopping around for them and they can be pricey!
Looks like a nice project, best of luck with it

Hi,

we got a mohair hood, middle padding section and new headliner from Germany for less than €700 delivered...had to get a new window frame made for rear of hood...VW wanted over €500 but got a metal worker to make it for a fraction of that....my OH is in the trade anyway so he fitted it all himself after the body got a little tlc and full respray...some pics on the VW section put up yesteraday....BTW it is a 88 MK1 Gti Karmann Convertible...little speed machine...fsh and original light grey interior....we are pleased with it anyhow!

Claire
