I've been offered a mk2 Jetta Pacific GTD with big miles needing a few bits sorted on it.. I never knew they made these from factory, its got a navy interior and carpet and is quite clean.. Engine undertray and a few other little bits..

Any opinions?

I have exhaust sections from a caddy 1.6n\a if its any good; depending on what turbo is on it you could 'step up' to a 2 or 2.5in down pipe (if its the same as the one I have -K14l its a '3 stud' cast down pipe exhaust as stock with them feckin c clamps); and run a 2in exhaust 'out' with maybe one box; a turbo diesel is 'silenced' by the turbo, so you only need add one silencer to keep the neighbours/NCT man happy; generally the stock exhaust are very restrictive for TD and GTD engines...

If its been lying up awhile, to 'wake it up' and get it running; drain all the old diesel out of the tank (this really is worth doing no matter what anyone says; a diesel priming bulb and a few feet of fuel tubing will get it siphoned off; if you have a proper fuel siphoning gadget all the better use that) , change the diesel filter and drain the lines; its worth doing; after all that is done add a 50/50 mix of diesel and ATF (automatic transmission fluid) fluid; I'd add 'neat' ATF fluid into the new filter if possible to prime the pump and free up the veins;.... is there any 'clicking' out of the glow plug relay?? If the relay is past it/no life out of it, hook up a direct 12v supply from the battery to the glow plugs for 2 or 3 mins and try cranking (they might need repeated 'powering' being old; Good luck!!

the exhausts are the same apart from the downpipes, there's a small difference in the downpipes the gtd will have a more of a curve on it than the n/a. its the later 1.9td that have the 3 studs at the manifold. i bought a new 1 for the jetta out of the motor factors in oldcastle here think it was around 60e

...depends on the turbo; K03 = 4 studs; Mk2 GTD were mostly K14 or K24 turbos being 3 studs at the manifold... a lot of later (MK3's and Passats) 1.9TD's had the K03 with 4 studs, unless it had the bigger k14 with all the EGR 'plumbing' attached to it; most had the K03 tho... I have both engines here at home; mk2 GTD with K14, and mk3 1.9TD AAZ with K03...

It runs again.. B)
nice to have a jetta with bhoost, as diesel jettas go its not too slow.
I've plenty of little bits to sort out on it, starter is bad, heater matrix is burst, needs bits of trim etc..

Lots of fun..

The turbo in this is a water cooled unit, with four studs holding on the downpipe.. ??

Questions..

I've spare wires.. something to do with a sensor (water temp?) on the turbo, and other wires beside the secondary coolant pump/oil cooler..

Does the turbo trigger the coolant pump when its hot or what??
Also, the solinoid on the injector pump doesn't open when you turn on the ignition..
