100 bhp would be major enough from one of those. You could get induction and exhaust system, 10 bhp maybe. It would also sound a bit more exciting anyway. Don't attempt to turbo it as there not the greatest engine VW ever built. Change the cambelt before the VW recomended mileage, as the tensioner's and pulley's are not very durable, especially if driven hard. I don't know if there is a chip availible, but you could try Mike at Autosolutions on 044-62932 or 086-8212627, tell him John at JOMO gave you the number. maybe another possible 10 bhp.

As said and exaust and an induction kit and if you have a few bob you can get a few body bits, colour coded, badgeless grill spoiler etc. But if going quicker is your aim then maybe fit an uprated suspension and good tyres for faster cornering rather than upset reliability. That is my 2cent

QUOTE (johnny99 @ Dec 31 2005, 05:17 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Not really.

?? Not really what? It's not really a waste of money spending a lot on a 1.4 engine trying to get 2bhp extra out of it?

Money doesn't come into it John, he asked could he do anything to get more power out of it. The answer, for what you're going to get out of it versus the money you need to put into it, is no.

Would'nt that be his decision. He asked and I gave him an answer. I agree, it's alot of money for a small amount of power ( more that 2 bhp to be honest), but with what he has, there are not to many options if he is keeping a 1.4 under the bonnet.

As lynch1 when younger I could not afford a 1.8T and definetly not afford the insurance. So no matter how much it costs to get a few more horses from a 1.4 it is still less than what he will need to spend to insure and buy and run a 1.8T.
So as for a ''waste of money'' which is worse, spend a few quid and enjoy the car he currently has or if he is young spend all his wages on insurance and paying back a loan on a GTI. I know which I would do.
