Whats involved in going widetrack on my mk2, what specific parts will i need and ive heard you can do this but still stay 4 stud?

Cars running a 20v engine and 02j box with 8v driveshafts/g60 brakes if that matters.

To be honest geo just to do something else to the mk2 while im at it, have asked a few people about the difference in handling with the wider track and they all say it corners better but ive yet to drive one.

You wouldnt go ahead with it?

I dont fully understand the geometry but there is a difference between altering track with spacers/wheel offsets and moving the pivot point of the steering.

search on the forums on clubgti.co.uk for more info there's a lot of people on there have done it.

Generally only on track cars, and always requires arch surgery, unless you're gonna run skinny tyres, which largely defeats the purpose.

and passat stuff does work for it.

really only for track cars though

do a search on ''king pin inclination'' itll make it easier to figure out why widetrack is better than spacers.

Passat stuff will fit and work but its not right as you cant get propper camber adjustment
and you will end up with positive camber.

I did a wide track conversion on the gold mk2 I built and the arches were nearly full
without any wheels,it was mad looking.
If you plan to keep the 9" rims I would stay narrow.

If you want to change stuff for the sake of it you should fit a vr6 steering rack, its a quicker rack.
I put one in my daysel mk3 and it feels good, turns in alot better.
