Hiya, i'm expecting delivery of a Mk4 TDi engine, gearbox, loom, keys, dash ect tommorrow night for transplant into my mk2. Has anyone here actually done a conversion like this before or maybe knows someone who's done it as i've been doing loads of research into it but can't find a whole lot of info. I remember seeing a mk2 tdi for sale in the buty and sell about a year ago just after i bought my current van and started thinking about the idea. I've got loads of questions involving the cable to hydrolic clutch issue, the throttle issues, possible cv and driveshaft issues, engine mountings and wiring problems, nevermind the dash installation. If anyone can offer any help i'd be very grateful, thanks. If anyone else can think of possibe problems or incompatibiltys could post them up that would be great too. I'd like to have this well planned out before i start tearing apart my precious golf!

By the way if anyone would be interested about taking on the job themselves give me a ring on 086 0889864 or pm me and we'll talk about it.

Yeah i was following that project, some job! was thinking about a pd 130 but being in college i'm always short of cash and got a killer deal on the tdi110, probably better off without the PD engine, the tdi will be hard enough to do without all the extra complications. I must get on to him but just looking for a mk4 tdi to mk2 veteran for all the specific problems encountered. Especcially the dash issues and the fact thats its about twice as deep as the mk2's!

ive never done one of these conversions but off the top of my head you will need a corrado or passat pedal box to convert properly to hydraulic clutch, you will need a pair of mk2 100mm driveshafts from a gti, these will bolt to the tdi gearbox flanges. get yourself the engine and gear box mounts from a 88-96 type turbo diesel passat, these shove the engine and box forward a little bit more and allow clearance for the turbo

Thanks a lot for that. Answered a few questions i had there. The engine just got delivered there an hour ago, minus a few parts which yer man's gonna send on, can't get over the size of it compared to the GTD. Whereabouts are you based Ronan? i've been told you put the engine in mine for Conor Kinsella. Would you be interested in this job if i sourced all the parts?

I have more than enough on my plate too.

Don't worry dave, wasn't gonna ask. Sligo's a long way from me!!! Think i have someone locally to do it for me, i'll know by tomorrow. Still got a lot of bits and pieces to gather before work can begin. Might have a few questions for you though if thats alright.

Ronan - Sure i thought i might as well ask anyway! Good luck with that project, you'll have some weapon when you get that finished.

As Doc said, you won't need the full dashboard if you don't want to change it, just the clocks are needed. A B3 or B4 Passat peddle box should fit the bill. If you want me to check them out I have a mk2 Jetta and a B3 ('92) Passat so I can compare them if need be.

What are you doing with the old engine?
