Hi guys hope yous dont mind me sharing my build tread with yous, know i dont post alot on here, infact i dont post alot anywhere nowadays..

anyways.........

Got this Mk2 back in July and had two or three minds what to do with it... VR6/KR/18T/Diesel/Rebuild 1300.

Ended up on the idea of a diesel lump in there so picked myself up a BKD MK5 140bhp lump from the England.. The engine itself has covered around 36k and came with the much loved 6 speed gear box.

Work started on the car two weeks ago and at the minute its really just a saturday build thing happening but we hope to free up more time over the winter months to get stuck into it, so far we have the old 1300 lump removed and all the trim removed from the car.. with a few other small bits done.. (more updates and pics to follow in the coming days)

Anyways some info on the mk2 itself.

Its a base model CL/Ryder/Gl something like that cant remember off hand:
2 owners from new
Full History
72,400 miles covered on the body.

Heres the Car as i got it..

Going to be tricky and tight fit, long way to go yet but at least the front mount fits lol

Got from steel yerterday to make up the gearbox mount...

Top job so far finding such a clean mk2 and the engine.

Are you giong to steam clean the engine bay first or just get the engine in asap.

Have you checked to see if the bonnet will close with the rocker cover so high?

All the best, and please do keep us updated with info and pics as this would be very helpful to anyone trying this in the future! (aimly myself if I do haa!)

Not really dude, been reading up on the 16v's lately and with the power to weight ratio it'd be a savage wee motor... Imagine all that torque

My mk2 is a 1.6d ffs... although... WIP

Nice project. Keep the photos coming though.

QUOTE (Micksheenb @ Nov 5 2009, 02:34 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Best of luck, cant say i've heard of too many of them tbh. Binning the dpf? what gearbox you using?

Don't think those engines had a dpf. I was just the BMN lump. Could be wrong though.

Thanks guys...

To try and answer all the questions above and give a little more info..

Got the car from england as well worth paying the extra in my view to get it over here.

The whole car will be getting re-painted, so the engine bay will be cleaned lol, the engine is going to be in and out 100 times by the time it goes in for the final time it wont be a straight fit like a AAZ or a 1600 GTD lump etc.

I am using the 6 speed gearbox which i think is different from the 6 speed box that comes on the PD 1900 engine's??

It will be staying OEM look.. More details will follow in the build have a fair few bits together already at this stage but dont want to dump in all in on one post lol..

Heard that I can be looked at around 197bhp with 320lbs ft torque with a good remap, enough for any man but of course theres room for alot more with a few upgrades but with it going to be my daily i dont want anything OTT plus with the extra cost needed..

Yea, Basically I converted a 1.6mk2 driver to run with a 1.9 8v pd and 6 speed 02m.
There is a lot of work in it. Biggest obstacle will be getting it wired up. Was looking at the BKD wiring diagrams, looks similar to the ARL except for a few minor differences. Are you keeping the mk5 clocks and keys or going to remove the immobilizer?

The gearbox you have looks like an 02m, but ifs its the 6 speed 02s your using, you should have less problems. It should be easier to mount than an 02m, lets you use mk2 gti/g60 drive shafts (02m needs custom shafts made up) and you have the possibility to use a cable to drive the speedometer (with some gearbox modifications), allowing you to keep mk2 clocks.

The next biggest job is mounting the engine and gearbox but how difficult its going to be all depends on what mounts you use. Are you going to use mk5 engine/gearbox mounts or mk2 type mounts?

Make sure you fit power steering!!

Where are you based?

Hi Billy,

if you have the diagram for the BKD could you mail it to me?? Save us having to look for it come the time.. We are not looking to run the mk5 clocks or keys.. so getting a guy up north here to remove the immobilizer and later to do the map..

Aye its the 02m, the mate has the mount drawn up now and should be ready this weekend all being well. We where half hoping we might have been able to use the MK5 drives as both are the same length, with the setup thats in place.. As for speedo we have a few different idea's like poss running off the ABS senors.

Mounting we are going to use a mix of both mk2 and mk5 mounts.. This block where the back mount would be part of the drive runs over it and looks like we have to cut the mount away off the sub frame for a nice fit.. so that leaves use having to make something up using the side mount thats on there.. But that side mount on there is a awful desgin so we should be able to come up with something that fits better all being well...

Long Long way to go yet, but so far so good... lets hope it stays that way..

on the update front, I picked up some mk4 back brakes last weekend, so that should do our trick for the rear anyways..
