Hi Everyone,
I've recently joined this forum and become quite addicted to it, Once i joined, i spotted a Mk2 Golf up for dale in the Classified section on this site and i had to have it.
Luckily enough i had sold my old 306 d-turbo a few weeks prior to joining this and had a bit of money saved up, Mk2 golfs had caught my attention and i really liked the look of them and i had my eyes peeled at all times to go ahead and buy one.
I've been taking pictures of it this last month as i work on it but only got around to putting this thread up now
Here are the pictures of the golf as it was advertised on this site:
A few people might remember it being up as i only bought it a couple of months ago.
This car was well minded by previous owners and mint for a 20 year old car, i could not find any rust any where apart from surface rust on the back axle and front subframe, to be honest i've seen alot newer cars with more rust than this. I found the more i stripped it down, the cleaner it was
I was at college for a month and a half after i bought the car, so i didn't get around to doing much with it, but it didn't stop me buying parts for it online and trying to max out my credit card!!
Here's the list of most of the parts ordered while i was at college:
1. German Number Plates (with stadt Symbols)
2. Single Headlamp debadged 4 bar grille with mars red stripe.
3. Yellow Projector Fogs
4. Camber Adjusters for back axle
5. 16v taillights
6. Steering rack and pinion
7. Single Wiper Conversion
8. Golf Ball Ariel Topper
9. Down and Out rear window decal
10. G60 arches for both front and back
When i finally finished exams and got home, i got workin on the golf at any chance i could. . I took pictures as i went along so here it goes,
SOME ARE PHONE PICS, SO QUALITY MIGHT VARY AND SOME OF THE DIGITAL CAMERA PICS ARE BLURRY (DUNNO WHY, MAYBE I'M GETTING A SHAKEY HAND!!)
First job was to fit the German plates:
Next was onto changing the rear M3 taillights for the 16v lights, i taught they smoked part of the light suites the arctic grey colour of the car!!
1st pic is a half and half of each light, 16v i think looks better. . .
This is how the car stood when i took it home, i had lowered it slightly after i bought it, It is on a full set of FK adjustable coilovers so it was easily raised or lowered
The single conversion grille then arrived and the red stripe came the following day so i put them together:
This id=s the way the grille came, looked pretty bare without the red stripe!!!
Fitting the red stripe:
If anyone has to do this to there own grille, i would recommend to have 1 person putting it on and another with a hairdryer to heat the stripe for a split second when you come to bringing it around the 4 corners of the grille, the hairdryer allows the stripe to flex more and go around each corner without leaving any kinks or creases.
DO NOT leave the hairdryer blowing against the stripe for more than a second or it will shrivel up and be useless ( i learnt the hard way!!)
One of the main parts i wanted for the golf was G60 arches, and i bought a set off DieselDave from this site. . I never taught i'd come across a set, but was lucky to find this set, so i bought them
They needed a good power washing and cleaning and also needed to be brought back to colour as they had been faded to grey with to much exposure to the sun i guess!!
I powerwashed them back and front and took this to them:
It worked a treat and took them back to black again, then i sealed them with some Auto Glym Bumper care, was very happy with the results. . .
I just threw on the arches with duck tape to see what they look like, i'm not going to fit them correctly until i get my wheels and tyres and see wether they'll fit in the arches when i lower it, sections might have to be cut out or rear arches rolled, time well tell i suppose. . .
G60's tacked on!!
