Mk2 16v Trackcar Upgrade

Hi all,

Looking for opinions on what to do...

Mr Undertaker and myself have a mk2 Golf 16v Trackcar (ex rallycar) and we're experiencing a lack of acceleration on track. Now this could be due to us being used to Turbo'd cars so we're unsure. What we're looking for is a few options in order to bring the old girl back into par with decent quick cars (civic's being our nemesis on track), although cornering is a different ballgame, thanks to our chassis. I have a few ideas and wondered if you'd like to give opinions or even more ideas towards the cause...

The general list is...

1) Tune the 16v up
2) Get a Turbo for the engine (possible?)
3) Upgrade to a G60 (or strap one on?)
4) Drop in a 1.8T into her

What do you think about the above? Are they possible? What type of costs would be involved? Who could do them?

Thanks for all your opinions guys.

best option and the most reliable power would be a 1.8t. if you get a 225bhp from a tt or s3 and keep the factory managment with a remap your looking at 260 to 280 bhp all day long.

I couldn't agree with you more. It is the ideal option. but I'm looking for costs (even rough ones) for parts and any helpful mechanics that would be willing to do the job

For a track car I would go 2.0 16v. Cheap too and with some tuning 200BHP can be got and it will rev well. Then go suspension.

I had collected most of the bits to build a 1.8T track car.
Engine €1000
ECU (DTA) €1600 odd
Stealth racing loom for ECU to run 16V plug leads on a peugeot coil €750
Brembo's: €600
Intercooler: €80
Boost hoses: €200-300 for samco?
That is what I had collected give or take a few bits like arb's, coilovers etc...

If you run factory managment. It would be cheaper but there is still things like mounts, downpipe etc tat all add up. but can be done cheaper than what I had.

If you do go that route a MKII 1.8T on track would be a weapon.

If you have the budget and time go for it........

''My piece of advice for a track car is go n/a'' someone with a lot of G60 and 1.8T experience said it to me before.

What is the budget?

Edit: just seen your reply there Bernard, Adding labour and its a lot of extra cost, do it yourself???
