Sounds like the solenoid on the starter is nearly at the end of it's life.

exact same thing happened mine in february, its should be your starter is shot, like johnny said.

Are you finding you battery isnt charging properly?

 

no the battery is charging fine i think, what do i have to replace is it the full starter???? this morning it started first time with no problems, does this sound correct?

 

Yes, burned/worn contacts on the solenoid. I reckon that you have already checked the connections on the battery and the starter, also the earth at the rear of the gearbox.

yes i have all intact, so it is a new starter for me then.

Had the same problem...... put a wooden post against it and hammer the top of the post a couple of times while someone turns over the starter. Worked for me.... someone once told me that a load of deposits build up and stop the starter engaging..... Worth a try!?!?

ah the good ol' slap it with a hammer method. this is my favourite fix for all lifes little problems.

Short term solution. Then some wet windy November evening, the thing won't start.

hi everybody,

been driving the car now everyday for last week and the it has not happened since???? wanna get this through nct in next few weeks and cant have this happining on the day or even worse in the test centre,

think a new starter is on the cards, better put some overtime in at work
